Default Installing new servo and BEC help please

I searched both in this forum and online and cannot find specific info on changing servo and adding an external BEC to a Bomber.

I am NEW to all of this... Sorry.

Being new, I am not familiar with what is generic and applies to all servos etc and what it means on the Bomber.

I killed the stock servo in the first 25 mins of use. I purchased a Hitec 7954 and a Castle BEC.

First question:
I get how to plug in the servo to the receiver; but, which plug do I use for the BEC? The receiver in the Bomber has B, 1, 2 and 3. The servo goes in 1 and the 2 goes to the ESC. Do I plug the BEC into B or 3?

Once I get that answered I can move on and may have another few questions to wrap this up.

Thanks for any help and again... understand that I am new to this.

Looks like the B = Battery. I'm going with that for the BEC.

Either will work. Be sure to pull the red power wire out of the ESC connector at the receiver. You don't want to feed the higher BEC voltage back in to the ESC.

Thanks Maslin. I went with the B and I did pull the red wire from the ESC to the Receiver.

I am putting this all back together. Haha... RTR? ...right. Being a noob, I can't believe how many screws and things I just took apart to change/add something that from what I understand is basically necessary almost right out of the box. None-the-less, I am stoked on this car.

Next question is in regards to splicing the red and black wires from the BEC into the battery plug. Do I need to solder/splice them in? Or, I noticed that the ESC has two little additional lead openings where you could pull the blank covers and attach wires. Will those work? If not, what is the best way to splice/solder the wires into the battery plug wires without sacrificing some type of water resistance?

Thanks again for the pointers and help.

I may have once again jumped the gun with that last comment. Looks like the other leads are jumpers for drag brakes or leads for NiMH.

edit: I dug a little deeper and can see that the gray part of the battery plug can be split apart giving clean access to the pins for soldering. There is room to slide the new wires in through the openings on the gray plastic. Then simply slide the two halves of the plug back together.

If I did this again it would be faster. However, this project just took me about 3 hours. haha.

Edit edit: Do I need to program or adjust the new servo? What about end point settings?

Edit/edit/edit: In case another noob like me runs into this later. I found out that you set the end points with the transmitter. I can now see how this would be common for one who has and knows rc cars... not so basic for the first timer.

I'm torn between whether I should have started this in the "Newbie General" forum or here. My first questions I thought would be best suited for people who were familiar with the exact product I was working with since I don't know much. Therefore I put it here in the Bomber pages.

Now I have installed the BEC and the new servo. Everything has been connected and soldered. I am now about to program the servo; but, I am lost. I'm reading the Tactic instructions and not clear on what is happening. When I go to program mode, I am assuming the car battery should be connected to power the servo right? I'm not getting results and the wheels are not turning at all.

...ideas?

Yes, your battery need to be plugged in for the receiver to have the power to communicate with your transmitter, or your just trying to send a signal to something that's turned off.

First off, make sure your servo, and B.E.C are plugged in properly. Got it good.

Second, take the pinion off the motor, so you don't have a run away accident. Yes all the way off! It's that easy to bump the trigger and enter throttle EPA (more for something like a trail master BLE ESC that enter calibration mode if the trigger is pulled before the ESC arms). Still sound advice since your ESC will temporarily be on before your transmitter.

Third, enter programing mode.

Fourth, turn your wheel fully in what ever direction you want to set the EPA first.

Fifth, use the third channel buttons to adjust the EPA until the servo stops buzzing.

Sixth, repeat steps 4, and 5 for opposite direction.

Alexander... Thank you for being awake and responding.

Step 4: Turn wheel... radio wheel on hand held radio controls... right? When I do this, should the actual car wheels be turning?

...or a better question for me is what exactly should be moving or happening during step 4?

Yes, turn you transmitter wheel with your hand fully in what ever direction you want to adjust the EPA first, and yes your front tires on your bomber should respond to what your hand is doing on the transmitter.

Okay. That is what I thought should be happening.

The vehicle wheels are not turning or responding in any way. No noise... no movement.

I have checked the wiring again. I pulled the red wire between the ESC and receiver. I plugged the BEC into the B port on the Receiver (B, 1, 2 and 3). I soldered the red wire to the red wire and the black to the black on the plug.

Any ideas from here?

What happens when the 3s lipo runs low... does the safe mode shut off the power to wheels? ...or power to servo?

edit... if this matters, there is a little green light coming from the BEC. I assume this means it is getting power and all is well here?

Is your servo plugged into channel 1?

Thanks for your help. since this has been just a bunch of questions from the new guy... here is one pic of my very first 10 minute play while in Moab for work. Pulled to the side of the road and tried it out.

After this fun moment, I used it maybe another 10 mins at home doing nothing really when the stock servo died. I just want to get this going so I can play

Your servo is plugged in backwards, or both your ESC, and your B.E.C are plugged in backwards.

I read servo backwards and didn't realize you said BEC might be backwards too. I only changed the servo.

That looks right to me, if not then change all of them, the ground wire should all be on the same side. Castles B.E.C ground wires are brown.
