The front axle is done...
The entire assembly weighs 378g. I have no idea how that compares to stock but it should be close to the same weight yet much more durable. |

| Re: Levior* - Becher's not-a-Bomber Build
I've been busy getting Vera ready for the G6 but decided to go ahead and mock up Levior sans motor, body panels and a few accessories. Total weight at this stage is 1762g (3.88 lbs) and I still have the following to add:
That will bring the final weight to 2,022g or 4.46 lb. Hardware and wiring will add some but I will still be well under my goal of 5.0 lb The ride height is a bit high right now but everything else will be sprung weight and should bring it down just enough. I loathe flex shots but I honestly had no idea if this thing would even flex. It seems to do pretty good. |

It's finally here - the pièce de résistance, Holmes Puller 500 Crawl 13t and the BR Mini ESC! I have to suppress the temptation to install these because I still need to work on my G6 rig. Oh the agony! I also broke down and bought the parts for a Bomber chassis. I just like the look of it so much more than the Wraith for this build. I guess this is going back to being a Bomber build, only with a Wraith skid. |

I returned from my mainland trip on Saturday, got the electronics installed in this rig and went for it's maiden run. First impressions are great. This thing easily tackles obstacles that my Wraith struggles over. The much lighter weight makes a profound difference. It weighs-in at a mere 4 lbs 6.1 oz and the Puller 500 just throws it around. I need to tune the shocks to counter the torque twist and maybe gear down a bit but I'm looking forward to battling the creek bed that has owned my Wraith. I'll post new pictures once I get the Bomber chassis installed.

This is a really cool build Mike. I like your approach to saving as much weight as possible. I'm interested to see the weight difference when you switch back to the Bomber chassis. That motor is sexy as hell, I'd love to get my hands on one. Keep the updates coming!

The chassis switch is almost done, I just need to button up the electronics. To my surprise, the Bomber chassis (without the spare tire mount and fuel cell) is lighter than the Wraith chassis (332g vs 350g) and the Wraith chassis did not have the front bumper installed. It now weighs in at 1983g soaking wet (literally) or 4 lb 5.9 oz.

On Saturday I took this rig out on its first real crawl to the stream bed that has owned my Wraith. It is able to out-crawl my Wraith hands down - climbs better, more nimble, lower COG, narrower track, all-in-all just a superior crawler. Afterwards I went ahead and put the longer RRD shocks on the rear to lift the ass end which was getting hung up too often. I'm going to officially call this a Wromber - Wraith skid and links, Bomber cage and panels (soon). I still need to permanently mount the electronics and further adjust the driveshaft angles. I'm also going to see if I can pull off a tummy tuck. The extra clearance would certainly keep it from getting hung up on the rocks. It won't be as straightforward as the Wraith mod but I think it's doable. I am really liking the Holmes Puller 500 and the servo relocation with the Dlux trusses. The narrowed HB Rovers also kick ass I didn't get any pictures of my Saturday crawl and it's going to rain all day today but here are a few potato quality pics I took at the local park pavilion. I was just looking for an excuse to get one of these and my boys' Bomber servo upgrade was it. Their Bomber will get my old Hitec 7955 and this build will receive the new hotness from Holmes Now I can make a direct comparison to my Promodeler servo (which has also been awesome). |

I know they will never be as light as those Rovers but you can lighten the stock tires significantly by cutting out the thick internal ribbing. Just cutting out the ribbing under the tread saved 15g per tire (about a 9% reduction in rotating mass), you can get even more if you cut out the sidewall ribbing as well. They still won't be Rovers but the KR2s are too cool not use for something. |

I just piece-milled the cage so I don't actually have the stock tires, or anything else for that matter. I do want to put a set of class-3 legal tires on it at some point. Maybe some KLRs or I might narrow a set of Baja Claws. All I know is that keeping it lightweight has been the shiz. I've had to change my driving style a bit but now I can easily pull lines that my Wraith never could clear.

I successfully performed a tummy tuck my Wromber tonight and also reduced the width at the skid by about 3/4". It took me several days to figure out how to do this and I have a few more adjustments to make but it seems like it's going to work. I should be able to get it out this weekend to see if this reduces the number of hangups on the belly. |

Yeeessss! I wanted to do this as well, glad you got it figured out first. Anything special needed or straight forward? You ought to start a tummy tuck thread in the bomber section . Good work, keep it up.

The tummy tuck is about 90% complete. I still need to tack up the ends of the cage lower rails but it's solid enough to run. There is significantly more clearance and a few tests tonight have been positive. |

More updates and photos...It looks like a Bomber now, electronics are buttoned up and it's almost ready for the interior. Here it is compared to my boys' stock Bomber (mine is the less dirty one) Lower COG Equal axle clearance Shorter wheelbase (Wraith 4-link) Iso shot Levior front axle underside Stock front axle underside Tummy comparison (Levior has a tummy tuck) |

I haven't updated this thread in a while cause there hasn't been a need to make any changes. Nothing has worn out or broken and it's taken some nasty tumbles. The tummy tuck has held up like a champ. I run it nearly everyday and it continues to impress. I do have plans to add a dig unit and some narrowed KLRs, both of which I hope will add to the performance without too much weight. Once it dries out here I'll try to get some video of the crazy lines this thing will pull. |

Are the links you got from BM, wraith length? And Im assuming your wheel base is the same as a wraith? Glad the tummy tuck is holding up, I will probably try it out as well. I would like to see some video of it in action. |

Yes, the links are Wraith length and the wheelbase is 14".

One more short video. I got completely out of frame for a bit but managed to capture the good part. |
