That's an interesting thought. It seems like it should slide well over rocks and a thin sheet wouldn't affect clearance much. I've never worked with it but now I'm intrigued.

Here's my update on the Xtra Speed OD diff gears for the AR44 axles.

The verdict is not good. I've got about 15 hours on this front diff ring and it shows significant deformation in the teeth. The pinion does not show the same type of wear. The Axial set that I replaced had no signs of wear after about the same about of time.

I suspect it's only a matter of time before these gears fail. And this is in a light rig with minimal speed. In Shawns303 post, he stated failure came in 30 minutes under more speed and power. It's unfortunate, but it looks like we have a real lemon here. I'll run mine until they die then the Axial set goes back in.

I was debating a switch to AR44's on my 1.9 Wraith - after reading your thread, I'm glad I didn't. Mine are set up with Beef tubes and OD/UD and performance is excellent. I'm not sure a little more steering and pumpkin clearance is worth it.

It's gimmicky and mostly meaningless, but I got my Bomber up a 61° test incline this weekend. Last time I tried this with my Wraith I think I got 57°. And I have 3 witnesses to boot!

From another angle.

You can see some of the stutters in the second video. It's finally time to replace the brushes on my Puller 500.

The wheelbase looks pretty good and doesn't need much, if any adjustment. The ride height looks just about right as well.

The panhard bar and steering link line up almost perfectly. I actually mounted the top end of the panhard to the servo pivot.

One printed truss behind the servo and one up front keep it solidly in place.

I had one prototype wheel already printed and mounted it up with a Shifts hub and 9mm of spacers.

Did you lose any steering capability with this setup?

The CMS (chassis mounted servo) setup was pretty solid and never gave me any problems until last week when the HH servo gave up due to the well known center pin problem. I had a UC FAB AMS (axle mounted servo) bracket on hand so I put that in with my ProModeler servo (the ProModeler was too tall for my CMS configuration). The AMS setup is superior to CMS but not by a lot. I like the look of the CMS better but I've built this rig with performance over looks so I'll keep the AMS. I'll try to get some pictures of that setup posted soon.

You could try this to protect the axle. Xtra Speed XS-SCX230080.
Or the second, which snugs up a little tighter to the pumkin and has a better approach angle in the rear. Boom Racing

Diff skids hang up too much for this rig. I'll run the stock housings until they wear through then replace them. I estimate I'll get 9 months to a year out of this set. That's about what I was getting from the AR60's if I flipped them over once one side wore through.

I didn't NEED another new servo but I couldn't resist! First thing I'm gonna do when I get it home is tear it apart Second thing will be to install it in this rig. I've spent the last three weeks getting Levior ready for the RC4WD “From Ducks to Dawn” RECON G6 which is next weekend. It's looking good and I'll post up some pics soon.

New body panels are still curing and I don't want to trash them, yet

I just want to say Mahalo to all the vendors, followers and fellow builders here on rccrawler! You guys inspired and enabled me to build this rig and it has proven it's mettle yet again. Over the course of two days at the Ducks 'til Dawn RECON G6 in Southern Oregon this machine powered through 1,100+ gates, water, mud, dust and heat without a single solitary problem. I didn't earn Driver of the Day honors this year but I couldn't be happier with this rig. The ProModeler S470 was absolutely flawless along with it's little bro, the S160 on dig duty. The one-year-old Holmes Puller 500 and BR mini powered through everything with ease and made some of the hill climbs look like child's play. If there was a better performing 1.9 rig out there this past weekend I didn't see it

Helluva trip. Makes all us mainlanders look bad for not driving out, too.

After the gut-punch I took this summer it's been difficult to find the time or motivation to get back out on the rocks. I did manage to attend one day of the "Shaka Brah Classic V" on Oahu a couple weekends ago and it was good to be back.

Travelling light again, this is about everything I brought. I hadn't done a lick of work on it since June and it was still covered in Oregon dirt from the Ducks till Dawn G6.

Great to see you back at it, my friend!

Hey, am I crazy or did I see a mention of your name related to the contraption slipped over your transmitter wheel?

How's that work for you?

Does it help with one-handed driving, allowing for easier video creation when by yourself?
