Default Ben's Bomber Build

Guess I should put up a thread for my Bomber as modifications progress.

Started with a new stock Bomber.

First upgrade before even driving it a midwest grade tire.

Sold all the stock electronics for about $93 here on RCC.

Made some upper links while I was waiting for parts.

Went with:
SSD titanium steering links
Vanquish C-hubs
Axial Universals
Holmes Hobbies BLE ESC
Holmes Hobbies 2700k Trail Master Motor
Vanquish SLW wheels

The first time it ran I didn't drive it. A friend of mine did a lot of work towards supporting the local crawling club last year. He sold his SCX10 to race over the winter. He asked if I might have a rental for a local event. I happily let him break it in. Then I got some wheel time with it after the event.

Needs wheel weights, needs swaybar in the rear, needs drag brake programmed on the esc, needs 4s 3000 mah batteries. needs a better servo, needs a customized body to set it apart from the other club Bombers.

Some parts are coming further upgrades to come.

Went with a 2700kv Holmes hobbies Trail master. I really like it so far I might make the jump to a Puller Pro or Revolver series. The Trail Master works very well and the motor setup is the envy of most in the club. I just find that it starts some what abruptly still looking for something just a hair more low end control. It seems to have that great brushless punch and snap I need to go rock bouncing though.

I have a 1400kv Revolver on its way to me for another project. If I like it I may buy another for this truck.

Drove it today at a event for about 80ft and the servo quit. I did numerous repairs and care to the Tower Pro servo it's only like 2 weeks old with 2 runs on it was never right to begin with.

Had enough so it got the smash treatment soon to be replaced.

Also installed a Axial Sway bar kit. Wasn't impressed at all. Very plastic and the fit seemed less then well engineered. Also a bit on the stiff side limits flex. Once I get the wheels weighted and take it for a crawl maybe I'll like it. Might just take the bar to the grinder to make it a hair softer.

Default Ben's Bomber Build

Did you get the sway bar that was made for the bomber...mine from axial looks much different than a yours...it had the rear link to axel shorter....two end links screwed together (if that makes sense)...AX31331...

Yeah that's the same part number. I didn't really have any instructions to go from couldn't seem to find any detail. So I just kinda winged it from pictures I found from a Yeti. Might use those little screw together links instead.

Corrected the sway bar and wrapped it in digital camo blue.

Love your wheels and Camo.

Since the last topic here between you and WilTardo is in regards to swaybar. I'd like to hear your thoughts with a little more time after making the change to yours. I also was not really happy with the sway bar. I feel that something in between the "soft" factory sway bar and no sway bar would be great. The bar adds benefits; but, at a cost of being extremely tippy on off-cambered problems. I'm not sure it's worth it.

Yeah I feel it's a bit firm still. I'm giving thought to installing softer rated shock springs so that it will maybe flex a little easier. The other idea I had was to grind a little a way in the middle of the bar much like the Wraith sway bars to reduce the tension a bit. Just feels like it's setup for a road race. I want to set it up so it will calm torque twist and body roll. But, not hindering it's abilities in the rough.
