Default bilinvic's DMG IFS B1B/B2B Bomber Build

Here we go with my second Bomber build....except this time I will be swapping the solid front axle for an independent front suspension (IFS) using "The Death Metal Garage" (DMG) B1B IFS kit.

Before you ask "why don't you just buy a Yeti?" I will answer that question; Quite simply, in my eyes a Yeti is fugly, whereas the Bomber is one beauty of a machine IMHO!!! Seriously though, I believe the Bomber will be superior in the rocky terrain with a smaller mid-section skid. Although I have never owned a Yeti, I have witnessed their performance on our local mountainous terrain and it was impressive, but too much belly sliding for my liking. The Bomber will have more ground clearance too.

In preparation for receiving the DMG IFS kit, (hopefully within the next couple of weeks) I have started accumulating parts. Rather than ordering all the Yeti front IFS components individually, I ordered a new Yeti (kit version). Now I know I will have everything I require and I can use the rest of the Yeti for other projects.

There's no point in buying another Bomber since the majority of it's parts would be stripped off anyways; so I have a bare Axial RR10 Bomber chassis that I purchased from another RCC member. I'll be using the RR10 interior and Bomber Fabrications body panels. I love the BF graphics and I want the machine to look similar to my other Bomber.

I'll be using a Wraith transmission so that I can run a SSD centered diamond rear axle with Axial HD under-drive gears and a MIP yeti driveshaft.

For now, I will be using a Tekin Pro4 4000kV sensored motor controlled by an MMP. I'll likely use a Spektrum AVC receiver and an Xpert WR-7701 Waterproof 'Mega Torque' High Voltage Brushless Servo.

I'm going to stay with the Yeti length trailing arms and use VP upper titanium links as well as a VP Anti Rock sway bar.

The Yeti front end will be upgraded as well, including the upgrade parts in the kit version (Aluminum turnbuckles, HD differential bevel gears 38t/13t, & universal axles).

The following parts are on order from RPP and will be used for the front end:

Axial EXO Chassis Guard and Toe Block Insert Set (Front and Rear)
Axial EXO Machined Aluminum Front Toe Block F2 EXO
Axial Yeti Front Differential Locker
Team KNK Axial Yeti Stainless Hardware Kit
Vanquish Products Axial Yeti CNC Machined Front Knuckles; Anodized Blue
Vanquish Products Yeti Front Caster Blocks; Anodized Blue
Vanquish Products Yeti Bell Crank Black Anodized
Vanquish Products Yeti Double Sheer Steering Rack Kit
Vanquish Products Yeti Steering Rack Black
Vanquish Products Yeti Front Shock Adjuster Black Anodized
Vanquish Products Yeti Front Skid Plate Black Anodized

I also have new Proline 2.2 BFGoodrich KR2 tires coming...these will go the SSD Rock Racer wheels for my original Bomber and the Proline Flat Iron XL tires will go on the B1B Bomber. Not sure which wheels yet.

Shocks are still up in the air until I get building and figure out what sizes will work for me.

I'm certainly looking forward to this IFS B1B Bomber build and I want to thank Jerry for the opportunity of being among the first few to go this route with a Bomber.

More to come when parts start arriving.

I have been away for a couple years now. And have decided to get back in.
I could not decide what direction to go either the yeti or bomber, I have been leaning more towards the bomber as I don't really care to much for the yeti.

I think this may be the way. I have been reading through your first bomber thread and it has been inspiring to say the least.

I look forward to this.

The Tekin Pro4 4000kV motor is the same motor I am using in my Proline SC Buggy w/ an MMP with 3S power and this thing is an absolute rocket. Mind you, it is geared higher than what the B1B Bomber will be, but regardless it will have plenty of "go fast" when I need it and because it's sensored, very smooth lower end resolution for crawling.

While I await parts, I got the motor and transmission ready.

Started off with a new Axial Wraith transmission case (32p / 56T version), Team Fast Eddy Bearings, Robinson Racing One Piece Steel Bottom Diff Gear & Hardened Steel Idler Gear, Stainless Steel hardware.

The motor is bolted up and bench tuned along with the MMP. I forgot this motor had a 5mm output and I have a bunch of spare pinions, but mostly 3mm....so for now I'm using a 13T 5mm pinion. I will drop it down to a 10 or 11T pinion because even with the 13T pinion, this motor was spinning insanely fast on the bench with 3S; I don't need my B1B Bomber to cruise @ 35 + mph! I can always drop down to a 2S battery too.

The MMP is set-up to have the BEC simply plug in with a JR style connector.

Had to make another order from RPP because I need the Bomber Triple Link/Shock mount for the rear axle in order to have the sway bar (Axial RR10 AR60 Axle Component Set) and I ended up getting the RPM front A-Arms too.

Jerry at DMG messaged me today because they are going to re-machine the lower plates so that the front diff ring gear can be run in either direction within the housing....so this will add a few days to the order being shipped out.

Can you give us a idea of what DMG is charging for this kit, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm not exactly sure at this point....I believe there's going to be some more parts with my kit when it ships.

What's the saying, if you have to ask you can't afford it. Just kidding.

With everything DMG does it is well worth it and from the looks of the first 3 kits I'd be digging for change under the seats.
