Default weight of your bomber

OK, I´ve read not that much about the weights ... some Bombers might be quite heavy, some builds are lightweights. What is the weight of your bomber and what is the range of use?

My RR10 has a weight of 3230g / 114oz including 3S 3200, powered by a 3800KV 550+ sized brushless. She is running mostly onroad (~ 30mph) or in a scatepark - no rocks, no dirt but a lot of fun anyway.

Heavy parts: Motor + esc, beef tubes in front, drive shafts.
Light parts: Tranny (AX10)

I just weighed my IFS build last night. With battery it's 8.8lbs. It's primary use is trail machine and Rock bouncer. By comparison my dedicated crawler bomber is only 8.2lbs with battery so for me, going IFS only added roughly half a pound.

I'm working on a lightweight crawling rig - Levior* - Becher's Bomber Build. It started out as a bomber but I think I'm going to re-use my old wraith chassis for it. Nonetheless, it's nearly the same thing. I'm shooting for less than 5 lbs (~2200 g) and it's going to be dedicated crawler. The biggest weight savings is in the tires, the stock Bomber tires weight a lot. While this would help stability at speed, that's not what I'm looking for in this build. I've made some more progress on it so I'll update the thread later today.

I'm at 9 lbs with battery. Dual shocks at all 4 corners, 2-speed conversion, lots of aluminum (axles, wheels, knuckles, c's, lockouts, TAs) and titanium (links) all add to the weight. But it all works very well.

The range is from 5lbs / ~2200g up to 9lbs / ~4100g ... this is more difference that I´ve expected.

My bomber is actually in the middle (7,1 lbs). Now will I try to save some weight AND add rigidity - remember, she is an onroad- and skatepark - basher!

The parts which should to be beefier are:
- rear axle shafts (bend easyly at highspeed-rolls, see video) - is there a bulletproofed alternative?
- shocks (after stock and RC4WD King dual spring now I will check the gmade piggybacks 83/103mm).

I see most potential to save weight in:
- tires (actually: ProLine Prime 2.8" 10116-15) >> foamys?
- motor (actually: tenshock 401, 3800KV, 270g) >> 540 sized or stubby?
- ESC (actually: Turnigy 120A) >> ? (CC sidewinder, HPI vapor flux, ...?)

Do you have any suggestions to get a rigid, lightweight bomber basher?

Mine sits at around 9.4lbs without the battery. Running beef tubes in both axles though.

I just put mine on the scale, it is right at 8 pounds with the battery. I have added some weight:

Brass beef tubes in front axle
Metal steering servo
Dlux 1/4" front lower links
SSD Ti steering links
Axial metal motor mount
Traxxas Titan 21T motor (don't remember specific weight, but it was significantly heavier than the Axial 35T)
Axial 2 speed trans with shift servo
UCfab rear trailing arms
VP rear upper links

I am going to be adding weight in the form of RC4wd Rock Racer beadlocks, better tires, and beef tubes in the rear axle soon. The stock tire assembly weighs 6.9 oz, my new wheels will be 3.24 oz each and a Voodoo U4 tire with a DW foam weighs 5.1 oz. The RBII tires are listed at 5.2 oz each. Net the new tire assemblies should add 7.0 oz and the rear beef tubes 1.5 oz. This would put the weight at 8.5 pounds. I may ditch the spare tire in favor of keeping the weight down. I don't know where else I can cut while keeping the metal links for strength. I still have plastic chubs and knuckles up front and plastic lockouts in the rear. I could go to a smaller battery, but I already spent the cash on two 5000 mah 3S soft packs (12.9 oz) for the Bomber.

After watching your video my suggestion would be to sell it and buy a Yeti or better yet a Yeti TT. For the type of driving shown in your video the lower slung Yeti chassis with IFS and an unlocked front differential would handle much better. I am impressed that your Bomber does as well as it shows in the video, there are a couple of turns that you made that would've flopped mine over. Unlocking your front diff and running the 500K fluid would give the front end some slip for better steering at speed.

I like the look of the bomber ... and I like to go the unusual way - thats why I try to get a crawler running. My plan is to get it +40mph with good street performance and little bit offroad ;)

The front diff is unlocked alrready and filled with 500k-Oil. I´ll check 2.500k-oil at next maintenance.

The shocks work not optimal, I replace them soon with gmade piggybacks.

The ProLine 2.8 tires are too grippy, is Proline offering them in a harder compound? A little drift would be funnier than a rollover

Mine is at a staggering 4.7kg that's almost 10lbs I believe ....
It's on a diet now . Swapped out my 1/8 setup for a mamba x with 1406 2850kv. Bye bye stainless steel body panels . Keeping the hot racing 2-speed but still weighs 3.9kg now ...damn

7.5 pounds here

Wraith trans, dig unit with servo, 2.2 tires, stainless front links, stainless rear upper, aluminum rear lower. Vented aluminum deck instead of the plastic interior.

Mamba X, 3800kv motor.

I just weighed mine after the winter rebuild. Scale said 10.00lbs. That is up from 8.something. I added VP Currie F9s , and stainless links. I also run a 5300mah battery.

I will see what the run times look like. I may try the CC1410 motor in it again. It seems a bit sluggish off the line with the CC 1406.

My Bomber weights a tad over 10 pounds with battery also, with all VP upgrades and stainless links also. Keep bending axle shafts >.<

My new bomber is a bit lighter than my old one, 7.9 lbs without battery currently. I am planning over the long term to change the links from SS to titanium.

What kind of axle shafts are you running?

VP Currie F9s, VP Knuckles and C-Hubs, stock gears and shafts. No bending yet. However my Savox 1210 has had the gears ripped from it twice. Running a PL servo saver now and the breakage has stopped.
