Brushed motor upgrade

Hello, I went the Brushed rought
I ordered a Holmes Hobbies CrawlMaster Pro 13T, and CC SV3esc 3S.
10T pinion seem like a good starting point? I should have more wheel speed yes?
Thanks

Yes it will be quicker. Not sure by how much. That whole combo will be a significant upgrade in every way. Because that motor is a 5 slot, it's closer to a 27t three slot. The stock motor is a 35t 3 slot so that might give you an idea. Going down 3 or 4 teeth on the pinion will slow you down again though.

Re: Brushed motor upgrade

Looks like I will still be pretty slow, will keep stock pinion, ditch the 10T

Re: Brushed motor upgrade

Do you have any overheat on this motor running on 3s with 12t stock pinion? My rc4wd 35t motor hit 80C+ on 3s and I want even more speed.A 27t motor will be dead in a few runs with stock pinion.

Re: Brushed motor upgrade

A 540 can 27T motor gets super hot in a Bomber with stock gearing. A 550 can seems happy if you monitor temps. 2 speed sorts any heat problems from my experience. This is all on 3S.

Re: Brushed motor upgrade

I have also tested 21t titan traxxas running on 3s with 9t pinion. No heat issues but its too slow.Do you think 12t traxxas titan 550 would be a good idea or the only way for more speed is a cheap sensored brushless combo 2000-3000kv?

I am going to get Hobbywing QuicRun Sensored 120A ESC 10BL120 for bomber.Which of two motors will be better?I will run it on 3s.

Hobbywing XERUN Justock (10.5T) 3600kv
Hobbywing XERUN Justock (13.5T) 2800kv

Cheap sensored seems a bad idea from what i've read.
12t traxxas motors are fast but burn up really quick, especially on 3s
Have you tried a larger pinion?

I have a 12 and a 15t pinion but i think still will be slow.I have read that even some cheaper combo like trackstar or hobbyking do the job and they are smooth. Why are you saying that?

Re: Brushed motor upgrade

so the combo your talking about should run about $100. why not invest in a middle of the road brushless combo

if you just going fast you can pick up a castle SC setup for the same price as your going to spend.

you have options, even though that motor is great...tons of torque, i use it in my 2.2S rig. you have options...i run a 3100kv ROCHD and a mamba X in mine...took awhile to get there though.

good luck.

Re: Brushed motor upgrade

A Castle sensored combo (mamba max pro and a new 1406 motor) will cost me 210$ instead of hobbywing I can find it for under 100$.

I'm a big fan of Hobbywing's brushed stuff and i suspect their brushless stuff is fine in bashers, but from on here, Facebook and other crawler forums a lot of people don't have good luck with the Hobbywing sensored combos in crawlers.

I am also satisfied with hobbywing sensorless (120A,150A) and a 1060 brushed esc but what could go wrong with a hw sensored combo, drag brake?Smooth startup?

I switched from the Holmes 13t 5s motors to brood 30t motors and am much happier the 13t doesn't have as much drag brake.

149 r/c worx/scalerfab/team brood.

Coolrunning above had a thread a while ago where he had a high failure rate in a short period if i remember right and problems with temps on 3s, even geared down due to the FETs not being designed for long periods of heavy load on partial throttle.

A few people elsewhere have had failures and problems with pulling away smoothly in reverse.

Maybe the majority are fine and people are silent and the only ones i've seen are people sharing bad experiences.

Re: Brushed motor upgrade

The esc I was looking at is the 120A version 10BL120 so it has 10.5t motor limit for offroad vehicle on 3s.If I choose a 13.5-17.5t motor it should stay cool I guess. If it's running smooth and has good drag brake I can't see a negative.

Anyone else using hobbywing quickrun sensored brushless esc 60 or 120A version?

How did the HW 10bl120 work out for you? How is the drag brake?
