Default Gain top end with 35t brushed bomber?

Hey guys, I don't typically worry much about top end but I'll be working in a sand quarry next week with some tall high walls and wanted to take my bomber that had the stock 35t brushed motor in it. My goal is to get as much wheel speed as possible out of this setup. I've got 12, 14, and 16t pinions on hand and I've got a 64(stock) and 56 Spur gears as well.

If I ran a 16/56 on this setup and I just asking for trouble? Maybe a 14/56? I guess I just wanted your thoughts. I'm not too worried if I in fact to smoke my motor, but if possible I prefer to err on the side of caution.
Im not concerned with crawling ability as I just wanna try to high mark these quarry walls lol!

Thanks

It'll entirely depend on motor temps. With 16/56 I can almost guarantee smoke inside of 5 minutes of running. Your already running 3s? I would maybe change one thing and see how she does. HTH

Thanks for the reply Screamer. Yes 3s. Looks like I'll bump it to 12/56 instead. Should be a little faster. Think I'll make a switch to a 27turn when I let the smoke out of the 35. Btw, your build thread is awesome. I've learned a lot from it.

Yeah don't be afraid to smoke that stock motor, it's not worth nursing along. Since the Bomber came out I've been recommending to those that want a bit more speed to try the Traxxas Titan 550 21t motor. You can get them for around $15, they are a much more robust motor, and much quicker than stock. They fit easily into the Bomber's spacious interior too. Just another option. If you want quality in various choices, Holmes Hobbies now offers 550 sized brushed motors in many different configurations.

Ha, just ordered the 550 21turn! Thanks for the heads up on that. Gonna stuff it in there. Any gearing recommendations for hill climbing with that motor? Damn you Screamer I went and added some incision links too hmm what else can I find on rpp.....

I'd stick with stock gearing for now, maybe one tooth smaller on the pinion. See how you like that.

I have a Titan 550 21T now, it works great. I smoked two 27t axial motors and stock 35T motor. So far the Titan is much better and i have not smoked it yet.

Volt up. I'm running 4s on a 35 turn brood axle buster and my crawler still crawls silky smooth but has the top end of about a 20 turn.

Yeh I was thinking of going 4s, but I'd have to ditch my esc for something else and at that point I think I'll go another route with a roc or puller. The stock esc can't handle 4s can it? Appreciate the ideas and experiences WT, Kore and Screamer

Are you getting considerable more speed out of it? I'm not too worried about bottom end....what gearing are you turning with it?

No the stock esc will vent it's magic smoke on 4s. I'm running a brxl. If you want to go brushless and have a solid all around combo I'd highly recommend a sensored 4 pole brushless motor in the 3-3500 kv range powered by a holmes ble, castle mmp or my personal go to a trackstar 150A. It's $80 brand new and just flat works.

Or if you want to be different like I did on one of my tubers you can try a Tekin 1850kv HD on 4S. Runs great!

Lower kv and more volts is always a good time. My bouncer has a 2350 1/8 scale 4 pole sensored motor good for 5s. I'm still not used to the recockulous power of it on 4s so 5s is a ways off yet.

I switched to a Axial 20t motor at the start as I wanted a little more speed but still some crawling. I run 3s and havent had any issues, changing to 13p. Speed is OK.

The more and more I run it, the more speed I want and will be switch to a puller 3500 sensored at some point.
