Bomber Cage Chop?

So in trying to get the bomber lower & handle better for U4 I am thinking about chopping the cage - particularly at the back as the bottom of the cage (where the sway bar goes through) hits the top of the rear axle limiting travel.

So I'm wondering who has done a cage chop? Where did you cut, what does it look like and what did it achieve in terms of travel, clearance or height change?

Anyone?? I am thinking of cutting of the bottom of the rear cage to get another 25mm or so clearance. Currently the rear cage fouls on the rear diff truss.

Yeah not the kind of cage chop I am talking about. I am not interested in a tummy tuck or moving anything. I'm only interested in removing the rear lower portion of the cage to allow more travel of rear shocks.

Then where you going to mount the sway bar?
I think your looking for an improvement that doesn't really exist, if your links are already level at ride height you don't need huge up travel from there, my shocks are 2/3 compressed at that point, I have far more drop out from ride height than up travel.

The sway bar mounts further forward through the little underside hoops not through those eyelets on the underside of the lowest rear bar of the cage. So that lower section isn't really needed. And the way I have flipped the rear tyre mount, that lower bar isn't needed at all.

the shocks bottom out at the same time anything back there hits, I would agree with the above. You are going to cut back there, and not gain anything

Nope - the shocks don't even come close to bottoming out before the rear cage hits.

My set up is fine - obviously just different to yours. I have my shocks mounted as high as possible up top and as low as possible down low. I.e. As low as possible stance with as upright as possible shocks.

So back to my original question - anyone chopped the rear of the bomber cage?

Why is it your's has room for more up travel even though you have them mounted as high as possible? Mine are mounted similarly and they have about .25" to bottom out when they contact the rear section of cage.

Go ahead and cut the cage down and see how it works out, then. I had considered cutting mine some and then cut off the bump stops, but mine isn't going to be a crawler and the extra travel won't be needed.

Thanks - I'll give it a go and see how much extra I gain. Looks like it will be 10-15mm and will allow it to sit as low as possible whilst still allowing up travel.

Sounds pointless. It's not going to affect articulation (where the uptravel will matter) and at the stock wheelbase even with the axle hard on the cage the belly height is super low.

But you'll be able to fit a servo back there ;)
