Default To those running Proline Powerstroke Rear Slashes...

Just got a set of 4 powerstroke rear slashes. I have a fairly heavy rig. What oil wt and shock springs are folks using?

Also, there are no shock pivot balls that come with them? Where do I get these?

I grabbed the pivots out of a proline MT truck that was being parted for .75 from my local Hobby shop... or you can get them in the shock rebuild kit... also proline PS XT's come with pivot balls as well.

shock weight really depends on way to much, driving style, terrain, spring weight, ride height etc etc. start at 30wt F/R tune them from there...

For the rear on a heavy Bomber, running powerstroke rears, I'd start with 45wt. That's just coming from what I've learned with my 2 Bombers.

My weight is probably similar to your F-bomber as it has many of the same components. I am using rear slashes all they around, so you suggest starting with 45wt all around? What do you like for spring combos?

Thanks!

It's trial and error... Everyones setup is different, I personally find it more rewarding to play around with spring rates until you find what you are looking for. Asking for spring rates on an RC board, is like asking what size jets you should run in a carburetor, it's never the same..

You'll be able to see what you need when you have everything in front of you. Obviously, we don't want the shorter black springs fully compressed when the shock is extended, and you want the bottom to slightly compress before the top. It's not rocket science!

Merry Christmas.

Definitely not 45wt in the front. The rear needs more spring rate and more damping due to the trailing arms leverage. If you do 40-45wt in the rear, I'd try 25-30wt in the front. I'd get the spring tuning kit linked above and install the combo that gives you the amount of sag you want then test from there. I can't tell you what combo I ran because I switched to Kyoshos and Traxxas big bores a while back.

Thanks for the tips! 45wt seems super high but I will give it a go and see.

I run powerstrokes front and dual rear. I run 10w in both rears and 25 in the front. 45 seems really high.

I spent months playing with springs and oils. I found once the springs were worked out the oil had a munch less drastic effect.

I had the front down to 10 at one point and the rear up to 45. Ended up back at 30 all around. It seems to work well in all situations, instead of chasing the perfect fast/crawl/snow setup of the day.

I have powerstrokes slash rears on the front & rear of my bomber, along with a pair of XTs. I used 35w, with um green/black spring, and blue/grey spring in all six shocks.

Another question. The ball on the stock rod ends on the power strokes are too wide for the vanquish and/or JEC trailing arms. Did you have to change out the rod ends to something else?

No, they fit right in my JEC arms. All 4 sets I am running.

Ball is too wide. Had to pop the stock ball out and replace with a revo ball for it to fit.

My bad. I was thinking the XT. They use a different ball. If the traxxas ball fits then that's what I would do too.
