Default Yota truggy

Alright here we go, thing is built now. Took it out for a shakedown after I put the wheels together.

It's an rtr, with
Carter fab aluminum extended sides
Carter fab front inner fenders
Pro-line 85 hilux sr5 body
Axial soft sway bar
Crawler Innovations 6" double deuce standard inner, soft outer front, medium outer rear
Pit bull rock beast 2's komp
Axial beadlocks
Incision 8 pc stainless steel link kit
SSD yeti trailing arms
Hitec servo hs-7955tg

And tomorrow the axial aluminum servo horn should show up. I drilled the aluminum one that came with the hitec servo and it works ok, just a bit short.

I run Venom 3s batteries

It seems real capable now, and today I even made sure the motor smokes a little. HA whatever. I was crawling some real technical thing and I think it bounced into a pinch and the tires gripped all crazy under throttle. Anyway I ran it for another 30 mins after the breakdown and things seemed fine. for now.

Only other problem is that the whole thing cuts out once in a while. I think it might be a bad battery, I'm testing that idea when I get the chance. Not the servo, cause it's new, and cause the throttle cuts also. Just really quick intervals though. Then it's ok. Sometimes I unplug the battery and hook it back up. And everything is fine again. Could be transmitter interference too I think. It's part of the charm of this truggy.

So there you go. Hopefully the information helps some folks. I'd say an rtr with the stainless links, a swaybar, and an aluminum servo horn would be a great start with one of these rigs.

I would almost guarantee you need a BEC to power your servo, its causing your esc to brown out temporarily.

RX Bypass Adapter - Wiring & Wiring Accessories - Electronics & Wiring

Castle Creations BEC 10A - BECs & Voltage Regulators - Electronics & Wiring

These should be what you need

I run a BEC in everything

so the smoke was from me shorting the esc or burning the motor? if it's the esc could be because of the servo, as i was spinning wheels trying to bounce up a feature and the steering was back and forth right then.
thanks for the info!

How long does it shut down for? It's not hitting the thermal is it? Love how unique this rig is

Well it does two things. Sometimes if I'm doing donuts in loose dirt, the steering and throttle will sputter. Feels like an electrical short. Like a bad ground would be with a motorbike or something. The other thing it has done is the steering will lock to one side and nothing else works, no throttle, no steering, just locked to one side. That happened twice just at random times. But unplug the battery, plug it back in, everything is fine.
So maybe full throttle and full steering (donuts, drifting) on 3s with my servo shows that I'm overloading the esc and should run a bec. I don't know a lot about this stuff, but this line of thought is making sense.
Although it isn't real easy to replicate, which made me think maybe it's the battery, since I have 2 of them. And that might explain the inconsistency. I'm keeping track and maybe this weekend I can see that this only happens with one of the batteries. It's real exciting.
Since I mostly am doing low speed crawling and trail driving it's not a big deal, but when I was out in the mud trying to bounce up a feature, the damn thing got too hot.

I put this one here just cause I was tripping out on how much the tires were hooking up. No wheel spin at all on this type of surface.

Still browning out the esc or whatever is happening. It's like a bad fuse, or a bad ground wire on the way out. That's the easiest way to explain it. I'm just dealing with it, didn't like baby the thing and fool with the battery. I just picked it up if it was getting real stuck. Cause them tires will get stuck in some of the rock piles.

Anyway I'm taking thechewmasters advice and ordering up the bec. I think I'm going with this one https://www.amainhobbies.com/heyok-p...nbradj/p521836 Lemme know if it sounds like something else going on to anyone.

How do you have the body secured on the back of the cab to keep it from flipping up while driving?

i use the screw at the bottom rear of the door on each side. probably replace that with some body clips when i get around to it.

Have you been using screws in the side of the body? Have you had any issues with this?

Those work great on my Wraith hood! Sweet looking Bomber and love the Yota cab!

Doh, I shoulda read more lol.

Also agree with Chewmaster, HH RX bypass harness with BEC is the way to go. Sounds like it's brown out, motor maybe a little burnt but still working. I'm assuming stock RTR motor, esc and gearing? Those tires are little taller and heavier than stockers, prolly need to gear down a little bit too.

Thanks man! Looking forward to installing that bec tomorrow. Hopefully! Also, the cap screws with the hole in em for a body clip got me a bit stumped. Since they thread into plastic I wanted to use the right thread pitch/size. And the ones used from the factory are M2.6... So I figured I would order up cap screws and drill them myself since nobody offers that obscure size in such an obscure configuration
But maybe I am overthinking it. I just don't want to manhandle the wrong screw into plastic threads. I'd rather just break out the wrench when the battery is spent for now.

Installed the no-brainer bec in line with the servo. Went wheeling today, no electrical problems at all. Thanks for the info everybody.
I just broke an end off of a trailing arm, and now I have one more spare...
Good times!

This wall is crazy steep. I tried a different line cause this one doesn't go all the way up, and had a crash from pretty low. Mechanical failure haha! It was a line to the left. I'll be back.

Did you get to run it long enough to confirm the bec fixed your problem?

oh yeah, that was halfway through the second battery. So about 1.5 hours of no glitches.

Sibley, across from Merritt college, and Redwood mostly. Joaquin Miller a little. Oakland hills, close to where I live.

Hey do you think it's possible to keep most of the grill and headlights of the body intact?

I would like to get this body as well but I don't want to cut the entire front end off on mine

Looks awesome tho reminds me kinda of bro dozer from diesel brothers haha!

I really don't see how you could keep everything intact and still use the front bumper. If you look in my thread there is a similar picture of another truck with more of the headlights and grill, But I found the plastic tube wanted to go right through the head lights

I plan on doing up some headlights, but wanted to cut out all the lexan. Kinda like these 1/1 trucks.
