Default JSterrett's Bomber (now with B1B IFS!)

Just wanted to get some pics of my bomber on here, as well as show a few of the minor things I've done so far...

A few assembly pics (you're all probably seen plenty that amount to the same thing, so I'll keep the build pics brief...)

Axles and links assembled...

Transmission assembled and everything attached to the skid...

Cage assembled and panels painted...

Attaching the axles/links/skid...

And fully assembled...

First "issue" I ran into was the servo browning out my ESC's BEC, so I made my own (kinda overkill) glitch-buster...

6800uf 10v Caps salvaged from an old power supply....

Salvaged the connector off a dead servo...

A little soldering...

And we have a (very large) glitch-buster...

Covered with some heat shrink tubing and attached to the trans w/ double sided tape...

Unfortunately, it helped the problem (brownouts were less frequent), but it did not solve it completely...

Painted my fuel cell, and added a few of the stickers....

Saw a few people with aluminum panels on their Bombers, so I decided to try and make my own...

Original side panel...

Covered with masking tape....

Tape trimmed for a template...

Template applied to an aluminum side panel from an old computer case...

Rough cut using metal shears...

Closer cut again using shears...

Couldn't get this part with the shears...

Used a dremel sanding drum to fix that radius and smooth out the edges...

Bent and installed....

Did both side panels and the roof, still need to do the hood....

Took a bad tumble down a hill and broke a front link end...

So I decided to try and turn some old Revo rods into new links...

Did front uppers and lowers, think they came out pretty well....

Also removed the spare tire carrier when I was building the links, here's how she currently sits...

Thanks. I work for an electronics recycling company, so have access to some interesting things at times. Currently stockpiling LEDs, might even look into building my own controller...

Picked up a used B1B (#36) in the classifieds section a few weeks ago, have been piecing it together slowly...

First 3 pics are how it was setup when I got it.

Wasn't a huge fan of the skid (interfered with the lower arms and would barely allow it to flex), so I wanted to try designing my own. This first design was essentially a copy of the original with a few modifications...

Wasn't super happy with the first design, so #2 was more of a mix between the OEM bomber skid and the original B1B skid.

This is just standard PLA so I dont have big hopes for the durability, but this should be good for fitment testing and at least a little play time, lol....

More progress. My RC situation has gotten kind of crazy... so many projects right now, lol.

Bought a used wraith from a friend so I could steal the electronics out of it. MMX and 1231sg went in the bomber, ROC412 will go in something. Have a new Ascender K5 kit coming, will probably use those axles to build a 1.9 wraith. Also bought a 2nd Exo, going to combine the best parts from my 2 Exos into one. Also have to finish fixing my daughter's SCX10. Also have a scorched parts steering setup to put in my Twin Hammers. Also need to make sure my TRX4 gets a rebuild before Squirrel Fest next month.... you get the idea...

Anyways. MMX and 1231sg got installed in the B1B. Stole a bunch of front end parts from my Exo, including an aluminum bulkhead, Vanquish hubs and knuckles, and hinge pin modded RPM arms.

Need to do a little more wiring and figure out shocks, but getting closer...

Stayed up way too late last night and made some more progress. Shocks rebuilt and mounted. Wheels and tires assembled and mounted. Just need to reprogram the ESC and she will moving under her own power...

Still have some kinks to work out, but she did good at Squirrel Fest (pretty big local event).

I need to widen my rear axle to match the front end width. Was thinking of either going the SSD wide centered axle. Or, builing up a regular AR60 with beef tubes, Dlux AR60 U4 Truss, stronger shafts and lockouts, then use wider SLW hubs to move the wheels out. Leaning towards the beefed up AR60 at the moment, but would like to hear other opinions / suggestions...

So I didn't realize when I bought the parts that Gear Head wheels use a much wider bolt spacing on the hubs than the (SLW spacing) hubs supplied with the Dlux FBA shafts. Drew up a new hub in OnShape real quick, and got JEC to machine me a few. Still need to get it outside for better pics, but it's all bolted together now...
