The French Canadian Bomber (First-time Build)
 

Hi everyone,
My name is Jean-Francois, i'm from Montreal, Canada and i will attempt to build an Axial Bomber RR10 as my first ever kit !

I have some experience with RC cars and i have been toying around with a smaller Yeti Jr 1/18 for quite some time. Replaced a few parts but nothing mecanical yet.

I finally received most parts after long delays and a few surprise duty/taxes/import fees, gotta love Canada... and i will now start posting the progress.

I like to go all out in most of my projects so i did spend quite a bit more than planned on upgrades. After reading this forum and other sites, i decided to buy what seems to break easily and will go from there. So here we go.

Since it's my first build, i'm open to comments / tips / critique as i go. I prefer to be warned of a possible mistake while i'm build rather than afterwards.

At first I had those foams, radio, and motor/ESC combo. Love them all for the price point and performance. I've since moved the foams and motor/ESC to a Wraith. Excellent for crawling.

I assume you will be using the stock links since I didn't see new ones in the list of parts. The Revo rod ends are 1.5mm shorter than the stock Axial rod ends so you will want some spacers to correct the length. This will be especially important on the steering links and the rear upper links.

Oh crap, i never thought they would be different. So any kind of 1.5mm washer from a hardware store will work ?

Guess the only other option is to use the Vanquish link set ?

Any washer will work with the right dimensions.

The ideal measurements are 4x7x1.5mm but those are kind of hard to find, SSD makes them. 3x6x1.5 is a fairly common RC spacer size but would need to be drilled out for the M4 set screw. If standard hardware is available, 1/16" washers are a hair over 1.5mm but will likely require drilling as well.

Maybe i'm wrong but i see Traxxas Revo End and RPM ends as different things on forums and webstores.
The Revo end are round and the RPM ends have 2 flat sides.

I will open the kit bag tonight and assemble 1 link with Axial rod ends and 1 link with the RPM rod ends.
I will post a picture here so we can get the definitive answer.

If i have to order the SSD M4 spacers from RPPhobby, it's another week of delay for my build sice it took 8 days to deliver the Axial motor mount i bought from them :evil:

The RPM are beefier but have the same linear measurements.

Same as axial or same as traxxas revo?
I just went ahead and ordered the SSD M4 spacers on Amain hobbies.

FI spools and now spacers holding up the build.
Guess I can start building wheels and painting.

I used the SSD spacers. When I was taking the part trees apart, there are some plastic spacers that are not used. I bet those are what you are supposed to use. Even with the axial ends, I still spaced the upper rears. Pinion angle was off in the stock configuration.

Kyosho do a lot of different sized shim kits that would also work well for fine tuning the links, I used 4x6 shims in various thicknesses. And there 5x7 kit is perfect for shiming the ar60s

So 12 days later in Canada...

I finally received the last batch of parts needed and will be able to start building!

That is something so many of us in the US of A take for granted, parts availability. Yes, we may have to order something, but usually we can find a LHS that carries what we would want or need. (In So Cal, anyhow) No customs to deal with for the most part so we get parts quickly as well. Now get'r done and post those pics as promised!!!

I just updated the part list section in the first post and added a picture.

Didn't start last night because my son just didn't want to sleep and the little free time left went to Destiny 2...

Great start for your first build!

One thing I suggest that I don't see is good tires. I recommend ProLine TSL Super Swampers or Hyrax.

I have my eyes on a set of Hyrax with Proline wheels "thumbsup"
But i figured i would put the money on the mechanical side first since the stock tires aren't so bad.

I also need to start saving for the HH Crawlmaster Pro 550...:roll:

So another newbie mistake im afraid...

I tried putting on the double deuce foams tonight and I just can't...
They seem to be way too big for the Kit tires.

See the pictures.
They were the product # recommanded by Crawler Innovation.

They do look a little big. For my Double Deuces I pulled the inner foam out and then put the outer in. Centered it as best I could then put the firm inner foam in. Center it as well as I could then installed the wheel barrel and centered it up. Then install the rest of the wheel.

May not help because my tire isn't as small as what you're working with.

I've got those same foams on Incision Method 2.2 wheels and kit tires, didn't take too much effort - and that was my first effort with beadlocks...

They will fit fine!
