I emailed "MetalFab by Reed" to ask about what rod-ends they use for their $30 trailing arms...

I'll post up the answer when they reply.

Be nice to have another option!

The links on the bag sure look like Revo ends, and the grub screws look pretty big, so here's to hoping they're M4 Revo links.

I got an email back confirming that the rod-ends ARE Traxxas rod-ends for the Metal Fab by Reed trailing arms...

Also, they use setscrews with a stronger 8-32" thread, a hair bigger than 4mm - allowing for a better bite on the rod-ends.

So, $30 is a damn good price for them, IMHO!

Also, be sure to look at the "Discounts" link on their website for some additional savings (on shipping, for example).

I may pick up a set down the road for my nearly complete 2nd Bomber build...

i'm posting a pic again from their site:

Just ordered a set for my Yeti. We'll see what gets here first, the JECs or these.

BTW, when I ordered mine yesterday, I noticed that the website was updated with the link and set screw info.

I've been talking to Mike and as he gave me the info, he stated he'd update the site.

Please be sure to take some pics when you get yours!

For sure. I'll compare them to the JECs. The JECs look great, but for the Yeti I want less unsprung weight.

Got the MFR shipping notice yesterday. They're coming via USPS and should be here by Thursday. The shipping notice prompted me to poke JEC, and subsequently I got a shipping notice from them this afternoon. That shipment is coming via DHL, so it should arrive some time next century.

MFR trailing arms are out for delivery. JEC tracking number still isn't recognized by DHL.

Update: On a hunch, I copied the JEC tracking number into Google and it came back as a USPS tracking number, not DHL. I tracked it via USPS and it's out for delivery. Yay, both sets of trailing arms will be waiting for me when I get home tonight.

Yeah he just shipped my kit as well on August 28, it's inbound to Canada by USPS.

Hopefully the border agents won't slap too much fees on it...

what part of Canada are you in? It looks like JEC is based in Massganistan, so if you're on the eastern side of Canada, it should get to you pretty quickly, customs jail notwithstanding.

I'm near Montréal, Québec.
It's always a dice roll for custom fees and package jail-time...

I've had big orders above 200$ pass right through and i've had 20$ packages held for days and slapped for 10$ import fees.

I mostly use Amain Hobbies and so far i had more free passes than slaps.

Trailing arms are here. Here are my initial observations:

The JECs are built like a brick shithouse, and weigh as much too. This is a substantial piece of stainless steel. I definitely wouldn't want these on a high speed U4RC type of rig that needs to minimize unsprung weight. These are machined from a thick piece of stainless. Build quality is fantastic. I think it sucks that they don't come with the rod ends. If my pistol ever jams in a life or death situation, I hope these are within reach.

The MFRs are very different. They weigh nothing. They appear to be cut from 1/4" sheet aluminum. The shock holes are chamfered on one side and thread tapped on the other to eliminate the need for a lock nut. At only 1/4" thick, I'm concerned that these may not be strong enough to withstand the abuse of high speed bashing. Additionally, at only 1/4" thick, I'm afraid that the shock end is going to protrude through the bottom of the arm, which will make the shock end vulnerable to hits, as well as allow them to get caught on obstacles. Time will tell. The sandblasted finish looks good now, but won't as soon as they get dirty. Unlike the JECs, these come with the rod ends, so everything you need is included.

Appreciate your observations, sir!

Yeah, JEC Racing used to include the rod-ends, but he typically would tell me that his lack of any to include was what was holding up shipping, and I just told him send 'em without 'cause I already had a bag full!

As far as the shock ends being vulnerable on the MFMs, that's somewhat disappointing... I suppose someone could fab up a mount that raised the mounting screws higher - but then the cost of it all gets in-line with their competition, and you're likely to need to run shorter shocks, thereby losing some suspension travel.

Alternatively, someone could fab a channel-shaped piece that acts as a skid protecting the shock ends... but again, a less than optimal situation all-round.

Especially since JEC Racing arms are available in 7075 aluminum, for those concerned with weight - and 7075 is one hella tough alloy!

I still also like CarterFab's trailing arms, they really resemble what is seen on 1:1 rock bouncers - but he hasn't seemed to have any available for AGES, and I've never even seen a picture of them "cleaned up" like he mentioned they were going to have.

Basically, the idea was great - but someone needs to just make a set and grind & polish them to look a bit nicer - that price is pretty steep at $50 in the raw steel finish:

Carter Fab & Machine » Yeti Fabricated Trailing Arms- Raw

I'll probably design & 3d-print a shock guard / slider to mount to the MFRs, but it's kind of frustrating that it's necessary in the first place. Maybe I can put them on Shapeways and convince MFR to put a link to them on his product page.

Thanks for the look at the MFR trailing arms, those would be perfect for my 1.9 Wraith if they came in Twin Hammers length. It is being pieced together from spare parts so it doesn't really need anything as nice as the JEC arms.

I really want a set of JEC aluminum arms in Wraith length for my Bomber but I don't really drive it enough to justify the cost shortening the rear.
