| Front Dig
On another forum, someone asked the question about front dig and the TRX-4. After having to look up what the heck that actually is, it got me thinking: I could do that on my Bomber build, using 2 motors, speedies... multi channel radio. The million dollar question is would it be worth the hassle? I could run smaller motors than what is going into it now, 2400kv Castle. I already have lockable diffs which I would then hook up. Front dig locked or unlocked. Anyone with front dig experience car to chime in????? Could easily have rear dig as well with a locked/unlocked rear end. Its not like any group would let me compete in any class, mine doesn't exist in 1:1. Suggestions????

Ya it's called MOA. Motor on axles. Berg, xr10, bully 2 axles.

| Re: Front Dig So you can lock (100% brakes) either the front or rear and drive from the one that isn't locked up (brakes)? Not MOA, that's not what I'm talking about although the end result is potentially the same because of 2 motors. Perhaps I need to pick the brains of the electronics gurus on what's involved with 100% drag brake on 1 motor and drive the other 100%, able to choose which I want to lock up, and have both drive together normally as another selection. Maybe too many channels as I think about it. Might be too far outside the box for rc. 1:1 is pretty cool.

You need a remote with mixing and 3p switch, but you can run an esc and dig switch or dual esc. Either way just uses 2 channels.

As far as is it worth it. I guess that depends. If you're only after front and rear dig it may be cheaper to just use a standard transmission and use one of the old school home made dig setups. It would be easy to program on a transmitter as well However, another benefit of a dual ESC MOA is individual adjustable motor speeds. That would allow you to essentially have standard, over driven or under driven axles on either or both axles at any percentage rate on the fly. I've always thought it would be interesting to run dual planetary transmissions with individual motors and ESCs. It could easily be controlled with my hacked GT3B and hidden in the body to look relatively scale from the outside. Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk |

If you want to build something crazy, look up MOW build by bc brian on here.

Yes, there is. On top of MOW, he also put a turbine on top to push the rig down, it puts out 1lb of pressure. That rig is one of a kind.

Just watched a youtube video with a wraith tranny. Can someone explain the mechanics behind that? I'm still liking the 2 motor program, maybe even direct drive with the proper kv. I dont care about a clutch and I won't be breaking my driveline, its overkilled already. Planetary setup had crossed my mind..... Sucks, I build, but don't quite get the electronics.

Wraith dig? That is just a front dig. Its got 3 positions, 4wd, rear free wheel, rear locked. If you want f/r dig, you'll need dual motors. 2 choices for electronics, one esc and dig switch, front dig, 4wd, rear dig. 2nd choice is dual esc's, front dig, 4wd, rear rig but with added overdrive/underdrive f/r.

Can you run the wraith setup backwards if you will, giving you a rwd only rig as the front would freewheel?

Probably, if you build the transmission backwards, or set it up like an scx10.

I’m running a wraith with both front and rear dig. I’m running 2 transmissions, a motor on each transmission and 2x esc’s. So I have the ability to drive 4wd, front dig, rear dig like a MOA, but is shaft driven to keep the “scale” appeal. I use radio mixing to control it all. The main down side is the weight of the extra parts, however it is a very fun thing to drive. |

I have some picture some where I’m on my phone. I’ll see what I can do. I’m running the Hulksta skinny gearboxes and puller 400 moties, so there as small as I can get them. The pair doesn’t really take to much real estate considering. Sadly no completed video of it on the rocks. I haven’t finished the video yet. With this set up I can turn mixing off and drive just the front. It has no issues in running just the front. |

This is a picture of the set up The gearboxes sit side by side really well. As I said this truck is fun as hell to drive. It’s amazing what it can do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

What are those trannies, got some close ups and some dimensions data/ratios, ets? Its would be nice for a change to not have to invent something or be the first to do it. I'm guessing it will crawl like a spider and trail run fairly quickly as well, right? What is your top speed mph? I want to see about 18-20 mph on the top end, so I'd have low end grunt as well.

Also, whats the story with a Wraith tranny vs Honcho tranny vs the rest that are used for the dig setups? Are these basically interchangealble amongst themselves? Has anyone done this dig setup in their Bomber yet????

Wraith and ax/scx tranny use same 3 gears. Both can be setup with dig. Im building a comp bomber and running a scx housing with vp dig. Same 3 choice as a wraith. 4wd, rear free wheel, and rear locked. I have a wraith tranny with dig I was gong to run but now I'm going to run scx with vp because of the chromo internals vp uses. |
