When you're done, how much of the original Bomber will be left?

Most of the cage?

Just as if you were building a B2B, the main cage and tires (though most run different tires), except that I cut about 1-1/2" worth of "tube" each side where my rear shocks go. So other than looking different, it retains the same original Bomber components as any of the other fully independent cars seen here.

Progress. Front geometry is done for now, sadly, it only cycles 3-1/2" because of rod end bind on the tie rods. I need to clearance the arms at the dog leg, far side, or find hubs that are about 1/4" wider than what I have. They rub at full bump/lock, reducing steering angle. Front bumper and skid are next so I can tie the front together, then on to the rear.

Got a bumper and skid??? 1/4" tube and 18 ga. cold rolled steel. A much stiffer chassis now.

Rear is complete less shock mounts on the trailing arms which will be done tomorrow. Much to my surprise, with enough metal pieces and screws, the chopped up plastic chassis is now fairly stiff. If I had the electronics, it would be joy ride time. I'm still leaning towards spooling a Slash 2wd tranny for simplicity sake. Looking for a cheap, beefy servo and also motor recommendations. I've been looking at a sensored 2400kv big block like I run in my go fast rig. Is that a good call or a mistake? Is there something better? This heavy turd will weigh 10-11 lbs, all low cg.

Its officially a roller!!!!! I"ll purchase the HR spool and strip my Slash of its electronics this week so I can do some testing. I think its been at least a year to get to this point.

7-1/2" of flex before the tires start to deflect.

First attempt at the center mount setup. I'm glad someone had posted somewhere that you take the roof off the chassis to work on these things, otherwise it would royally suck!

Great question. I am going to try to get the driveline squared away tonight. My problem is what to run for electronics. So many different opinions as to what and why that my head is spinning. One lhs was trying to sell me on standard Bomber electronics. Looking for decent stuff that is reasonably priced. Figure a 10 pound car that can go about 20 mph wide open, single speed. What should I be looking for? It won't be climbing trees, won't be mud bogging. Figure KOH type terrain. I don't know drag brake set up....... I just like the idea of a 2400kv sensored big block on 3s like my go fast car. So to help the newbie crawler, what should I run for power???? Then there are light bars. Who makes a reasonable curved one that fits the top of the roof? Light pods as well, say 1/2" square?

Hmm, for power I would probably run at least a 550 can, and since the gearing in there is pretty high you could probably get away with a mamba x on high voltage if you don't have a monster. 3s minimum, 4s would be best. What motors do you have on hand?

I have nothing on hand that foots the bill, tires/wheels and shocks coming out my ears. I would have to take the stuff out of my go fast rig to use existing stuff. It has a 70mm (2-3/4") long motor can, something like 4270 size if I recall. 8th scale stuff. That thing on 3s is a beast, runs cold forever and would probably be great in the Bomber. I really don't want to tear into my other car to get this one running. Then the steering servo, get a BEC to jack the voltage up for more torque........??? I find this is to be nearly as frustrating as building the rig around an existing plastic cage with some structural pieces cut out or removed!!! I am also not looking to dump $300 into the electronics to get it running either. Saw some TrackStar stuff that is similar spec to my CC stuff, with a HD servo, $130 ish for everything needed and I'm running. Thoughts on that brand??? Works for go fast, but slow?????

IMHO you can basically get whatever to go fast, but if you want to go slow you need to go "name brand" or brushed. High end 1/10 scale or any 1/8 is where i would start. Or put two transmissions in it and pull a yeti XXL with separate front and rear driveline.

I hadn't considered your go fast perspective, so I'll pilfer my motor and speedy out of the go fast car. I'll only need a servo, that is staying in the car because it is a pain to remove. Anyone got thoughts on the lights I mentioned above?????

For light pods check Jboucher's build thread, "French Canadian bomber" I think it's called.

So the motor on top will go in instead of the one below that I was thinking about, maybe to stay. Not sensored, but I don't think it will be a problem, its 1/4" longer than a 550 can, torque monster. I just hope the tranny lay shaft pin will survive being that it will be geared way lower than the go fast car. That one is now welded. I have all the driveline components, will get the steering double sheared. Oh its getting closer.... The end of next week could end up being my long awaited maiden voyage.

Yeah, the top one is definitely a better choice.

Mamba X allows you turn turn drag brake on and off, right? If so, which one do I want? And for the appropriate radio? If the diffs survive, the lock/unlock feature would be nice to run as well. So what do I need? Thanks in advance.
