Haven't driven for ever, so I simply walked across the street to make humming noises (electric motor) and dust. HEY, look!!!! A BIG, LONG, STEEEEEP rock. Like any happy goat would do, it went right up it. HOWEVER........... No drag brake programmed so it went 60 mph downhill coasting into the bushes at the bottom. Luckily, no damage. Time for a Castle link to program it.

Nothing better than a dirty rig, right??

Boat flair or whatever y'all call it, totally prevents damage to bodywork.

It's workin' pretty damn well on those rocks, especially considering the track width!

Thank you, nothing to compare it to to give it a thumbs up or down. I was so excited to hit these rocks, only to be able to mow right over them, while still having all the socket head allens sticking thru the bottom. Technical rock climbs really require a servo to lock/unlock/lock/unlock.... the diff so it will steer. RTR tires got wicked traction. Waiting for an action camera I'm going to throw on it, ought to make for some interesting FPV, I can even drive by using my phone for the goggles, should I so desire. There is about 1/2 mile of river rock waiting for KR2 footprints to be left on.

I picked up an action camera, 4k, ..... with wrist remote, a nice option. Best point of view for realism is in the cockpit, but its right next to my Castle big block. Looking thru the cow bars (center of windshield) and all. Just like you're driving. Awesome. EMF has to be out of control there, not sure if shielding with lead would help. Option 2 is connected to the cow bars, but outside the cockpit space. Option 3, the roof, but the viewing angle isn't correct looking. Anybody run something like this and where did you mount your camera? Is EMF an issue?

I am hoping to get a custom fuel cell designed/printed that has an integrated mount for a Runcam-like camera. Behind the driver and co-driver figures, hopefully working them into the shot.

I'll drop that here...

GoPro on the roof
FPV cam in front of the driver

It's okish resolution, similar to an old school VHS tape but it's enough to drive around and you get the HD footage after.

So she still sits idle, waiting patiently to be driven. Anyone have the 2.0 version and own or did own the original? Are there any real differences, particularly in the materials it is constructed of? Also, what is the general synopsis on the Losi Lasernut rig compared to a Bomber? Gotta say it is twisting my arm pretty hard.

I got to take the Lasernut demo model from our local shop out to a BMX track last weekend for some quality wheel time. The Lasernut blows the Bomber out of the water on all of the basher type stuff. It it way faster (stock setup on 4S) than the Bomber unless you run something like a 4500kv motor on 3S and it handles the speed way better as well.

The Lasernut handles jumps infinitely better than the Bomber as well. We launched it 8-10 ft in the air a few dozen times and landed on 4 wheels probably 90% of the time (the Bomber is a 50/50 shot of landing decently even at much lower heights). The Losi was perfectly fine after all the abuse while the Bomber would have most certainly broken something significant (even if you replace 75% of the parts with aftermarket stuff).

The Bomber will be lightyears ahead as a crawler with locked solid axles and has way more aftermarket support but those are probably the only areas where the Bomber has an advantage.

Do you have any pics of the rear suspension? underside? How did you mount the rear axles to the swing arms?

No pics of the underside, but they mount off some tabs. As for the axles, I made bearing carriers that fit E Revo / 1/10 Summit bearings at the wheels. I have 15 degrees of camber change as it cycles throuth its 4" of travel.

Took the Bomber out today for a video session.

Got a little bit of footage which is pretty interesting to watch. Day ended with this.

Time to unlock the diffs and install a new spurr and the big pinion for some 25 mph action. Way more fun as a desert racer than a crawler, where the turn radius and weak servo don't matter. I'll see about editing something to upload soon of the video shot before the DNF.

Here is a short clip of about 15 mph which looks like 45 - 50 mph full size. Dirt bike riders must have been laughing as I ran after my rig so it would stay in sight! A camera relocation to get closer to a driver's perspective is definitely in order. So what do you guys think? Shoot more video (be it crawling or fast(er)) or no video?

Heavily digging both your suspension fab projects and killer bodywork. Definitely a one of rig you've made. Cant wait to see what you cook up next.

I see the pinion falling off as a form of protest after neglecting it too long. Sometimes one of my perfectly reliable trucks will reject a part if they sit too long. Best to keep playing with them in rotation to avoid such issues.

Thanks for the props, but I blame the spur strip on my transmission, spinning REAL fast to overcome all the gear reduction.

So I went Bombing this weekend, chasing rabbit trails. Literally. Great colors, interesting driving. The indy Bomber is just a fuzz too wide to cleanly clear the "paths", whereas Bomber 2.0 really shined. Here are a few pics.

I can’t believe that it’s almost been a year since I’ve driven this thing. That will change this weekend! Amongst other projects currently taking all my workspace and are at the “~$500 to continue point”, I am looking intently at my other Bomber cage, perhaps it’s time for a “TAKE 2.1”, which poses the question, is a 2wd rig still safe to be called a Bomber?

Axle has been replaced, good to go. Got my Bomber 2.0, time to change its clothes. I modified the original sides and am contemplating running this setup, still needing a roof. So the question is run it or build 100% new?
