Default Maine Bomber

Been wanting something with a little more speed than my 2 ascenders and have been eyeing the bomber for a while. I also wanted to go with a 2.2 platform for a little more variety. Picked one up on sale recently. Opened the box the other night and my first impression....BIG. Everything just seems huge compared to the ascenders...I know I know size doesn't matter....but whoa. Anyway, I'm not going to do a full kit build thread since there are a million of those. I will track my progress with mods and such. For now I'm putting in a 1080 speed control and a HH 21T motor, cheap towerpro servo till ot blows, nothing fancy. Couple questions for you guys 1) favorite new england tire (rocky rooty leafy muddy...? 2) best free performance mods 3) do people prefer the axial 2 speed kit or aftermarket brands like SSD?
Cheers!

I was told the bomber dosen't need anything out of the box but i spent an insane amount of money...

I won't send you on this road

Just get some beeftubes, Gear shims, fast eddy bearings, maybe c-hubs and knuckles and RPM revo rod ends.

Been building for the last couple nights after things settle down around the house (3 year Olds arnt much help no matter what they say lol). Anyway, last night I made it to the point of putting the tube frame together and discovered I'm missing the rear shock mounts, actually 1/2 of that whole parts tree...total bummer. I've emailed axial/hobbico support, hopefully they will mail me one out to me quickly. Anyone else discover missing parts in their kit?

Good to know. How are the kit tires for North East conditions? They look and feel good but 2.2s still look huge to me so even the tighter tread pattern looks aggressive compared to the vaterra 1.9s.

I would just run them for a while before getting new tires, or I would get Hyraxs, I have some and they're really good.

Just heard the part I need is on back order, looking at a couple weeks before I get it. Bummer. Ohh well were looking at another 12 inches of snow this week...so I guess it's no rush. I will say they were very quick in their response time and only asked to see the reciept for the kit. I still have the electronics to get set up and do my body work in the mean time.

Soldered up the esc and motor, decided to order new plugs and swap my existing stuff to xt60 plugs rather than the deans style I'm I using now which I don't love. The HW1080 made that decision for me since it comes with one already installed. I'll probably start working on pant and detailing next.

Sorry to hijack, just thought I’d show a pic of my setup since we’re running the same combo. Made a esc plate out of 3mm styrene. Makes it look quite neat.

I use the same combo but it's a traxxas motor and i made a complete mess of wiring

Lightbar, headlights, rear lights all controlled from my TX and powered directly on the battery.

Nice, you guys happy with that motor choice? And by all means please do share what you've done/ideas you have. The more the merrier! I'm sort of in a holding pattern right now waiting for parts and too cold to paint in the garage (wife gets twitchy if I paint inside), I've got some vinal stickers comming to add to for the body work...I've got a specific theme in mind...more to come.
Cheers!

Paint your interior with water based acrylic the just clear coat it.
No smell and it's fun to add details to these 2 little guys.

Xt60 plugs came in today, swapped my batteries over to those and actually tested out the electronical bits. Just have 2s batteries now. I think I'll order a 3s just for fun to have around. Since both my other rigs are ascenders I'll look for a shorty pack so I can go wild with those too if I want. Now if my missing parts would get here....

Ordered a floured 3s 5000mAh battery and one of those cheap 20kg servos from the amazon... just waiting for shock mounts.. it's really tempting to just buy some Al ones...

Had a few minutes while the little one was napping today...I may just deal with the smell and spray my body panels in the basement...the vinal decals came in that I ordered (not a vinal wrap), and I'm anxious to get this finished...well all put together anyway, finished obviously isn't a thing in this hobby :p
