I don't fawk around.

Bought a bomber from a guido guy that lived on the Jersey shore and it arrived today. I take lots of pics but unless specifically asked to do a step by step I'm too busy wrenching to get more than parts and major assemblies. This will be no different, for now basics, later there will be write ups about parts and pieces.

The rig had some good parts on it to get the party started. VP links, ssd high ratio transmission, mips, VP stage 1 kit etc. It came with a Holmes hv500, roc 412 2300 and an mmp.

I've been collecting a few parts along the way lately in preparation for this rig. Dlux brass knuckles, Ti tie rod, aluminum hubs for the big 8mm stubs attached to FBA axle shafts. Picked up a 3brothers G13 too but that's for another day.

Rc3wd iroks on CI 1.5" wheels and 6" CI comp cut medium front/hard rear.

Re: I don't fawk around.

The axles are stock other than the stage 1 kit and vvds. Forgot to get a rock jock diff cover so I just installed the rear axle today since the rear gears were about shot and the silver diff had UD gears already.

I robbed this axle and slapped in ar60 tubes with creeperbob Ti axles.

http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...pscfrnsn8j.jpg

I had to rewire the mmp & motor so while the iron was hot I added a jst lead and xt60 battery plug. That plug will become important later.

She's a runner so now the suspension tuning fun begins. It's a fun rig, I look forward to beating on it and doing destructive testing.

Them're some bad-ass parts, my man...

Especially the Dlux brass knuckles, 8mm stubs, FBA axle shafts, and Creeper Bob Ti axles!

Should be a nasty one.

Oh it'll be stupid alright. I have a 2350 1/8 scale 4 pole sensored motor to shove 6s into ig I wanna get really ignorant.

These axles are more of a stop gap until the new hotness gets developed. Should set the U4 and hardcore ar60 basher market on fire.

With at least a dash of dirty whore I'm sure.

Nobody put a dash of dirty whore in anything now-a-days, it’s used more as a garnish. I want FBAs for my bomber, but I can’t decide on wheels...

A dash is ok but the lid fell off the dirty whore shaker this time.

Fawking Bad Ass shafts from dluxfab.com These are gen 1, gen 2 are 7mm rathar than 5mm. They are #BAMFA shafts.

Re: I don't fawk around.

Surprisingly enough the bomber jumped ok but needed an anti roll bar out back in the worst way. Also found a problem with a shock while I was refilling them with oil. Somewhere along the line someone must have over filled the shock, likely to prolong the intervals between the refilling process ( ) and then jumped the rig hard. There are 2 splits in the shock body itself.

http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...psqwzpiils.jpg

Soooo I robbed the proline pro spec shocks off a project U4 I'm building for someone (2661 big horse were just ordered today for it that rig) and refilled them with 20 front and 35 wt rear oil and plopped a UCfab anti roll bar on it.

http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...pstfrgwcgt.jpg

Suspension seems good, I'll find out this weekend.

JatoTheRipper 07-27-2018 06:37 AM

Re: I don't fawk around.

I'm not seeing the split in the shock body, but that's insane!

Those Proline shocks are awesome. I have them on my SMT10.

WHITE-TRASH 07-27-2018 07:52 AM

Re: I don't fawk around.

That line just to the left of the glare is a split. There is another one that is in the glare above the adjuster collar. I filled the shock slightly too much and compressed it only to watch oil run down the side. I was confused for a split second and then I had to laugh. Rc3wd quality strikes again!

JatoTheRipper 07-27-2018 08:09 AM

Re: I don't fawk around.

Ah I see it now. And I didn't realize those weren't the stock Axial shocks until you said it. RC4WD you dunnit again. :ror: Tell me why, again, that RC4WD stuff costs more than Integy?

WHITE-TRASH 07-27-2018 08:15 AM

Re: I don't fawk around.

You got me. It all comes from the same factories.

When I popped open the first shock (to refill with known weight oil so I had a baseline) I noted how thick the body of the shock was and had a thought of finding or having pistons made for them and keeping them on the rig since they looked durable enough. Turns out that thickness is needed to make up for the alumargerine they cast the bodies out of.

WHITE-TRASH 07-27-2018 11:08 AM

Re: I don't fawk around.

Had a minute this am so I ran the rig in the parking lot jumping a speed bump.

It jumps better for sure but the front springs are too stiff so the front end is at near full extension at all times. Poking around it looks like these are rather popular shocks. Guess about $50 in a big spring pack and m2c pistons will do'r.

fawkin around with a "scaler" eh? did you quit drinkin too?

you can put the bamf builders shaft in just about any axle.

I see no dolls or scale accessories. My crystal ball doesn't show any in the future either so no scale for me, just a high quality basher.

#BAMFA shafts can fit many axles for sure but the housing has to allow for them. Stock ar60 housings won't allow them but all VP housings will with them lathed out.

Re: I don't fawk around.

And then this happened.

http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...psuuhwpg1h.jpg

Mamba x and an ax2 trans. Upped the pinion to a 12 and she boogies. I'd like a little bit more top end for that little bit extra to correct attitude on big jumps but for now it's a hoot.

Re: I don't fawk around.

In keeping with my not fawking around mantra I quit fawking around this evening.

I've been running a 2300 roc 412 tekin motor on 4s and it has plenty of power but when I really need wheel speed its lacking top end to correct attitude in the air. I have an ax2 trans so top gear is 1.78:1 with a 60ish tooth steel HR spur and I've been walking pinion size up from 11 to 14 trying to find the sweet spot and coming up empty handed.

Enter a 3300 pro4 tekin. Same 60ish tooth spur and an 11 tooth pinion, still on 4s and it's a fawking missile. Too fast to control flat out but the one time I hit the good spot on the nearest speed bump ( ) I blipped the throttle and landed on the spare tire. Success!

It will now wheelie in first gear, it's about as fast as a stock brushed bomber but that second gear power shift makes it disappear.

Re: I don't fawk around.

Tinkered with the suspension a bit and lowered it about 3/8" up front and 1/2" out back. Dropped the tire size back down to a standard 2.2 sx too. Still hauls ass but is far more stable.

Re: I don't fawk around.

Swapped out the skid for a bomber version from the wraith skid that it had. Used a DMG adapter plate to mount the ax2 trans. Better geometry and all the screws actually get used now to mount the skid.

New shoes too. Gold klrs on locked up wheels. We shall see how long they stay on or not.

Also decided to swap out the trashed old C10 for the beat up aluminum panels that the new project bomber came with.

Here is the family portrait that will last until tomorrow when the U4 (left) goes to it's new home. The project bomber (right) is going away soon too.

I haven’t found anything that’s better than the KLRs...at least in Oregon terrain.
Be interested to see what you think of them....

I've had them before on the front of a sporty. Tried everything under the sun and finally in an admittance of defeat cut the sidewalls out and put them on a pair of pins to make modern day boss claws. They rock in that use.

These weren't even broke in when I got them but after a bunch of drifting in the parking lot they are getting roughed up. That is crazy to me, drifting, not traction rolling on pavement. Let that sink in for a moment... If they work offroad, which I do suspect they will be good at they will stay put for a while. But the drifting thing has me cracking up. :lmao:

No 6s for this rig... yet anyway  Just 4s for now. I won't step it up until I run a much lower KV motor. I did step up from an 11 tooth pinion to 12 tooth and wow, it gets it on now!

Re: I don't fawk around.

So I like to party...

http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...pswsqs7ndv.jpg

Picked up a spring kit & mip bypass pistons. Bought the wrong pistons  but they'll still work in big bores so no biggy. Went to blue main and tender springs but I need to step up to red, the blue is too soft.

http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...psyijxx5i8.jpg

Installed HR sway bars too. Had to get creative to use the front bar with a rock jock but it sorta works. When I swap axles I have a good idea to make it better. Also swapped to xl swampers on 1.5" 6 bolts. 6" standard/hard rear and 6" single stage front. Happy so far.

Got any good shots of the front say bar? I am debating about it. I have the Vanquish rear. Seems to work better than the Axial one that came with the kit.
