Default Weight of wheel/tyre assemblies

Hi,
changing the tyres back to the Axial KR2s after having the Axial KMs fitted for the winter and I was surprised how much heavier they felt.

Out with the scales:
Axial beadlock wheel, CI Foam, Axial KM 2.2 = 180 grammes
Axial standard wheel, Axial Foam, Axial KR2 = 210 grammes

Good for stability, not so good for acceleration and drivetrain life.

I'll try the acetone soak trick to get the KR2s off the rims so I can pierce them to let water out. Pretty sure they were dry when I weighed them but will check once in pieces.

What sort of weight are the aluminium alloy beadlock wheels?

RPP Hobbies is a good place to check wheel weights, they list it if provided by the mfg.

Examples:

SSD RC 2.2" Champion PL Beadlock Wheels (Silver / Blue)
Weight: 92g

RC4WD Raceline Monster 2.2" Beadlock Wheels (Black/Silver)
Weight: 3oz / 86g

Gear Head RC 2.2 CAC EZ-Loc Wheels - Delrin with Aluminum Beadlock Rings
Weight: 3.8 oz (108g)

Anybody know the Vanquish 2.2 method wheels weight? (1.2 wide "normal" version).

They advertise it being lightweight, but I don't see weight listed anywhere.

The acitone trick is for if you don't plan on keeping the tires from what I've read.

How is that? I just dismounted RTR KR2s without issue. I used a dish that was tire sized, filled about 1/4" deep. Let them brew for about 40 minutes and pop the bead by hand. Foams didn't even get wet. I was amazed how easy it was. Change the acetone after every tire so its fresh and clean. Maybe other mfg tires don't like scetone?

as long as there's not too much glue, acetone will safely remove the tire from the wheel. In most cases, I generally find that you still end up ruining the tire because the acetone can't penetrate all the way to the back side of the bead.

But, that should be unnecessary anyway. You can poke holes in the tires with a soldering iron without removing the tire from the bead. Even a sharp awl should be able to poke holes in the tire to let you spin the water out.

As for wheel/tire weight, most people like to have something heavier than stock. For crawling it helps bring down the center of gravity, and put more weight on the tread for better traction. While it certainly may impact top speed and high speed handling a bit, that's a small price to pay unless you're using the truck primarily as a basher or Rock Racer type truck. For crawling & trailing, that extra weight helps.

If you want to run glue-ons for racing, a great choice are the Crawler Innovations Double Deuce 6 Bolt 2.2" black plastic wheels available in 1" or 1.5" widths...

They use SLW hubs for strength - no stripped plastic hex hubs with these wheels, and are good-looking and super-light:
