Bomber transmission quandary

I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade / replace the stock Bomber transmission or just service it as is.
I'm very sure I need to strip it down and grease it as there's a clicking from I think the trans, I've replaced the drive shafts and the axle's are spot on which only leaves the trans.
It'd probably fix itself via greasing it up but thinking it's a real pain to remove the trans anyway so whilst I have to disassemble the thing, should I take the opportunity to upgrade!?
I'm putting a 3800kv castle through it, 64/10, so at some point if there's a weak link I'll find it so I'd rather plan ahead.
Money isn't too much of an issue but am I wasting cash where I don't need to?
Appreciate your opinions [emoji106]
Thanks

Re: Bomber transmission quandary

I built the Bomber from the kit and the transmission is all stock. I don't see any reason to upgrade it.

Thanks Jato. So no weak links I should replace if I'm stripping it right down?

Re: Bomber transmission quandary

Not for me. As long as you have metal gears and good bearings I don't see any problems. Other people may have differing opinions.

Not had it apart yet so no idea what state it's in but I'm 99% sure it was a RTR. I picked it up second hand so it's a mystery till I get it on the bench.

I am in the same boat and debating taking it apart and grease it all back up or replace it. Anyone know if the Supeshafty Wraith bombproof drop into a Bomber without modifications?

DmG’s
Wraith to bomber transmission adapter plate
Allowed you to bolt in a wraith transmission into a bomber !

I'm just going to do this as I don't have a spare Wraith trans sitting around and by all accounts there's nothing wrong with the stock Bomber trans.
Money saved is a plus [emoji106]

I just got my Bomber not too long ago so I haven't had it long enough to find out for sure but if what I'm reading is true and the Bomber has the same transmission as the Yeti it should be good to go. I've been thrashing the crap out of a Yeti kit build with a Holmes Hobbies Puller Pro XL on 3s for quite a while now with no transmission problems at all.

Good to hear, thanks for sharing.

Re: Bomber transmission quandary

Probably needs a set of bearings, the RTR trans has all metal gears, and comes very lightly greased.

I have had my bomber apart so many times i have it down to a science, just 12 bolts to get the cage off and expose the skid.
Sure, 12 more bolts than it takes to get to the trans in my SCX10. LOL.

a Wraith/SCX10 trans would be a solid upgrade and better Center of gravity if you are wanting a 1 speed, and then you can have dig as an option if you do a lot of crawling. I put the SSD 2 speed in mine. Not really that useful on brushless 2850kv castle, it has plenty of low speed control, but I do use it.

If money is no option, get a supershafty bombproof trans, $200.

you can drill the stock skid 2 additional holes, or get a swap skid as stated in above posts.

Thanks angrchair, appreciate the feedback [emoji106]
So the scx10 bolts up as well then... Hmmm pretty sure I have a spare with new gears somewhere... Does that alter the ratio in comparison, and if it does what does that mean in plain English!!?
Thanks

Re: Bomber transmission quandary

I torn mine open last night. Found one of the pins on the gear had come out, other than that everything looked healthy so I greased it up and put it back together.

There are 2 scx10 transmissions. the standard one that is the same as the wraith transmission commonly called AX10 transmission, and the scx10 II kit transmission which is the exact same as the bomber transmission.

The AX10 transmission is the one that people use with the DMG mounting plate or possibly drilling 2 holes in the skid.

The stock bomber transmission and spur/pinion come out to 10.37:1
the stock AX10 from an scx10 with stock pinion and spur are 11.2:1

In plain English the stock ax10 from your scx10 is 8% slower than a stock bomber transmission setup. You can easily change the pinion and spur to match your current ratio if you like.
