Default RR10 as a primary crawler?

Gents,

In terms of gearing, is there any reason the Bomber couldn't be geared to crawl as effectively as say an SCX10.2?

Well I think you can use a 9T pinion and a 68T spur in the RR10 transmission.

Plus the 2-speed option for even more gear down.

Should be plenty

You could also gear down both axles with underdrive gears

I suppose a reasonable target is 32.74, I can do that easily, in a few ways. Thanks guys, it seems the RR10 might be a more versatile rig for me than the SCX10...

It's not the same class at all though, the scx10ii is more scale looking and 1.9 tires

Playing with gearing (and/or adding a 2 speed) is still on my todo list, but the advice on the forum when I was getting started was that a good sensored brushless motor would make low speed crawling a cinch running stock, and so far, that’s been true. I’m running a Tekin Roc412 HD 3100, and I can still go fast, too.

I’ll occasionally turn down the max throttle on my radio, too, which gives me even more control at low speeds.

And if you are on a budget, the Holmes Revolver sensorless outrunner has arguably the best low-speed control of any brushless motor.

My Mamba X / Revolver 1800kv pairing is nigh-on perfect on either 3S or 4S, geared stock.

My hobbywing 1080 and trailmaster Sport 550 21T is able to run at snail pace and cost basically nothing!

I am still deciding on the powerplant and ESC for my Bomber Nummer Zwei - I already have the HH PP 540-L 4100kv "R"-type, and a huge Mamba Monster X....

But - I may throw them in a Slash 4x4 or something and just get another setup like you mentioned instead.

I do already have the HW 1080 ESC and HH TrailMaster Sport 550 21t in my Ascender '72 K10, with a FlySky radio and DS3218 servo it's the ultimate budget build.

The Bomber needs (or at least deserves) a better servo (2.2" instead of 1.7" wheels & tires), but otherwise would do great with that setup, no doubt about it.

It's going to be lighter than the other Bomber - or maybe not.

I can build it a couple different ways - still deciding, but it will be using the Xtreme Racing Carbon-Fiber chassis rails and a Lexan shell.

I may kit-bash it with the existing Bomber and re-purpose both of them slightly.

(Hell, it only took me around two YEARS to gather hop-ups and build the first one...)

I’ve never owned a scx10 but I love my bomber with the stock gearing.

The only issue with the Bomber as a dedicated crawler is the stance, it's too damn wide!
As a general jack of all trades it's simply brilliant. Perfect day out rig

It CAN be geared comparatively, and makes a reasonable crawler. But it's a different class of rig, bigger tires, and surely not a scale crawler. So the question then is are you going to simply bash and trail run, or are you going to attend local crawling events?

Or put another way...I got 4 crawlers before opting for a Bomber. And while it's great fun, if'n I could only have one rig it would be a Ascender or SCX10ii.

No, I wouldn't suggest it as your primary crawler and that's mainly dependent on the terrain. If you have extreme terrain that is going to challenge a 2.2 rig than go for it. If not a 1.9 rig is a much better choice.
