Default What length shocks do you like o your bomber?

Hey guys, i've been looking at upgrading my stock shocks that are on my bomber but i noticed that the stock ones are a pretty unique length. What length are you guys with upgraded shocks running, 100mm, 110mm or 120mm? Pros vs. Cons?

I've seen a few guys running the proline power stroke xt's in the rear and the regular power strokes in the front. I believe the xt's are 128mm and use the rear shock mounting position since they are longer and fronts are 103mm, don't quote me on those lengths though. This Is what I'm going with for my winter rebuild.
I want the longer for the rear so I can use another shock in the stock location with no spring on it to help with dampening. Not sure if this theory will work but I don't want to run a sway bar and I'm hoping it would help with the tq twist when stabbing the throttle on the steep long climbs we have.

I went the other direction and shortened the rear to about 96mm

I went with 103 mm shocks front and rear, and then I added 95mm limit straps front and rear. Seems to work out well.

88mm front and 102mm rear, short and great for go fast rigs.
Works ok for an eventual crawling.

I run 88/102 as well... Using taller tires, I've been having great luck crawling, even running a swaybar on the lightest setting. It'll blow your mind on steep climbs. She still love to go real fast

Why shorter shocks in the rear? Do you use the stock mounting points? Do you use a sway bar?

I bought a used bomber and seems like both rear shocks have no oil at all, and one of the fronts is visibly leaking. Overall, the truck is in good shape, so it's surprising the shocks are leaking. I've been considering buying these Hot Racing air shocks since they won't leak:

They only require a little silicone oil or green slime. Has anybody tried these out?

Gmade XD diaphragm 103mm
Setup as droop, no rebound with traxxas xrings and green slime
Both you and your wallet will thank me later

I would NOT use those Hot Racing shocks on a Bomber... They do make some very good products but I don't count tose shocks as one of them.

I am currently using the Gmade XD diaphragm shocks on my complete build and will be using Traxxas Big Bores for the other.

I have a set of those hot racing shocks that came with a RC4WD Bully 2, I'm not a fan and I really think they would not suit the Bomber well.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Being a newbie, I'm not familiar with the droop setup. Are there any threads on how to do this?

Also, I'm mainly using mine for crawling but I'm getting a lot of torque twist. Should I get a sway bar?

Basically droop is building the shock without any rebound and using soft springs so the weight of the truck makes the shock compress when you put it on the ground.

Zero rebound means the shaft doesn't come back out when you compress your shocks.

For crawling it's a personal preference, many like a sway bar to reduce torque twist but it makes the rear flex a little less.

It performs better for me with the sway bar and flex is only good for pictures.

On 3s brushless with a 3300kv motor, mine was virtually uncontrollable without the swaybar. The kit comes with one. It works great.

What weight oil do you recommend?
... And I'm assuming the no rebound is achieved by how much oil you use in the shock?

Yes for the rebound. Gmade calls it low pressure in the instructions.

For oil, I'm using stock 30wt.
Really have no idea how to tune oil yet, need to learn...

Nice, thanks for the info!

Does anyone know if the stock rear sway bar from a yeti will work on the bomber? I found this one on eBay for only $15:
