Little help please

Ok guys here is my dilemma. My Bomber stops on a dime as soon as I let off the throttle. I have tried all the transmitter esc adjustments I can think of but nothing has helped including adding coast adding or subtracting brake. I built my Bomber from the kit switching out new parts as I built it. I’m running the Vanquish stage 1 in front along with the brass bushings I also have an F1 spool upfront. I have stripped down and rebuilt the whole front end and there is no binding anywhere including drive shafts and the tranny. This is my first Rock runner / crawler rc. I’m not new to rc just this part of it so I’m asking wiser heads then mine to gimme so ideas directions. Thanks guys

And you're sure it's not the drag brake on your ESC? That sounds a lot like the drag brake. Can you rotate the tires freely by hand?

Some ESCs, like the axial AE5 have a manual drag break setting. On the AE5 there's a little break you can move between positions to adjust the drag brake.

Yeah this is a drag brake issue
I'm using a hobbywing 1080 in my bomber and it will do a front flip if I let go of the throttle on the stock settings.

I put drag brake down to 30 or 40% with a slow drag brake rate and it's perfect

Thanks guys I’m running a Hobbywing Xerun XR8 SCT I just went through my esc modes again and set my drag brake down to 10% it was at 40%. Charging a batt now to see the results.

Re: Little help please

Completely disable the breaks, set it all to zero. I mean it's easy to change and easy to rule out the esc. Then you can increase to what you like.

But if it still stops too fast, make sure you have trim set right, which it probably is or the esc would not fully boot.

It could also be bad gear mesh in the diff, old worn bearings, ect...

You can remove to pinion easily and see how easily it rolls with no motor pretty easily.

But easiest to rule out the esc.

Do you have it set to crawler or fwd/Rev mode? Most of the HW esc's have a few different break parameters. Make sure to check them all.

Re: Little help please

I went back though my esc and reset it back to default settings then set drag brake to 10% lowered my break power and made sure I was set to fwd/brk/rev. This seems to have fixed my issue thanks for all of the help guys!

Re: Little help please

Most of us use forward/Rev not fwd/brk/Rev. We like the instant reverse to stop the front end from pulling us over.

I’m running a Hobbywing G2 3660 brushless sensored motor works pretty good.

Re: Little help please

I like a little a drag brake but it depends on the use. For a crawler only no drag brake. For a racers or bashers a little drag brake is good to slow going to a turn without needing to hit reverse and break stuff.

Yeah. For Bashing I totally agree. Around 10% is generally good.
