Let's see your Bomber body

We all have one of these, right?

How and/or what have you done to to cover it up?

Planning on redoing side panels as I drilled one screw hole wrong and hood is stock lexan just painted to match better till I get the bug to make my own.

I made these a year or so back.

Hood and roof panels.

The left one is the Harley Wraith panel, IIRC. The right is the Bomber.

Came out like this.

Those patterns are great for someone looking to do their own. Note the scale inside so they print the correct size. "thumbsup"

For anyone considering those patterns but using aluminum, get a can of spray contact cement like the 77 (drawing a blank on the mfg) and glue the patterns to the aluminum. Cut out using whatever method you have. A pinch of acetone or laquer thinner will remove the glue and the pattern comes off, clean metal. File or sand the edges, shape to fit the rig. Mark the mounting holes (a little drill bit is good for locating the chassis mounts) and away you go.

Those are great! I remember when you made those panels awhile back Brakeweight. If I remember correctly you were making decals and paint masks. The paint job turned out nicely.

Thanks for the tip. My inclination would be to use lexan for the ease of it though certainly the quality of aluminum is nice

Correct. The red panels I made were using polycarbonate faceshields I jacked from work. Traced and cut the originals on paper and put them into a program for cutting vinyl. Then etched the poly with the vinyl cutter. Finished the cut and smoothed the edges on my garage concrete floor. LOL. Made some vinyl decals copied off of the A10 nose art and stuck them to the inside for painting. Easier than you’d think.

Re: Let's see your Bomber body

Stock panels painted a simple black, then covered with vinyl. I love the look. Durability, well... I guess they're holding up pretty well considering the thrashing that they're taking, and I think the battle scars give it character.

Here are the vinyl sections that I cut. I cut each panel section out of the same area on both colors so that I can have the same pattern on both.

For my base, I painted all of the panels black. Here is the hood:

And here is the hood with the vinyl:

Re: Let's see your Bomber body

Hey Brake Weight, I printed your patterns, they print huge as is, glad I have a good copier to resize them. I will see how well they actually fit soon. Seems like they are the OEM panels squashed flat and traced. V1 of this will be 26 ga. galv. If they are good, size wise (I matched mounting hole centerlines to my cage), a complete basic body (hood, sides and roof) should take maybe 10 minutes to build, complete with the mounting holes!!! How long did it take to make the lexan pieces from the face shield?

Re: Let's see your Bomber body

Maybe 10-15 minutes of cutting and smoothing the edges. Little bit of heat and bending. Then paint.

That looks great! Where do you get the vinyl? You may have posted that earlier, but haven't found it. I have a few ideas for mine, but as of now, they are brushed aluminum, and no colors or decals yet. I have changed tires and wheels since this old pic was taken. Been working on a few other rigs and haven't got back to my Bomber yet.

Here are those pattern pieces in galvy. Not digging the nose of the hood. EDIT: After studying this thing, round nose is fine, my body detail lines suck. Should have done a different design with the jog work. Smog's rig looks entirely different than this thing. Time for a Mulligan.

I bought it on Ebay. It was about $10 or $15 per roll. I forget if each roll was 6' long or so? Either way, I've plastered it on 3 cars so far and I've still got most of the rolls left. I believe I ended up doing a search for "orange camo vinyl" or something along those lines.
