68 tooth spur gear question

I am putting a Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster sport 550 in my Bomber and bought the recommended 11t pinion and 68t spur. The Hot Racing spur gear that I bought didn't come with a bearing like I see other spur gears do and I can't seem to find that any info on that bearing. Why would this spur gear not come with it and why does the Hot Racing or the RPP Hobby info not say anything about "Bearing not included. Must purchase separately". It's probably pretty obvious, but I've never replaced gears on an RC car before. Is that bearing required?

Also, does everyone peel the slipper pads off the factory spur gear and put it on the new one, or buy new ones.

If there is a write up on this somewhere I would be happy to go read it. I just haven't been able to find info on this specific problem in all of my searching.

Thank you!

I would keep the stock 64T spur and go down to 10T pinion instead.

Or keep 11/64 and see how the motor handles it?

If you want a metal spur, don't go cheap, get a Robinson racing yeti spur. It comes with all the hardware and the much better designed friction pad.

The Robinson Racing spur gear looks pretty sweet, but I can't find it in the recommended 68 being listed as working with a yeti or Bomber. They have a 64 tooth listed for yeti and Bomber but their 68 tooth says it's for an E-Maxx.

I will give the 11/64 a try since I already have it, but want to go with Holmes recommendation. Or is the 68 tooth spur not that important?

Re: 68 tooth spur gear question

I'm running a 550 21T Holmes motor on 3s with a 11/64 ratio.
Never had the motor above lukewarm even in the summer.

I'm pretty sure the crawlmaster can take it and even more

Re: 68 tooth spur gear question

I called RPP and asked them why there was no bearing with the Hot Racing spur gear I bought. The guy I talked to said some Hot Racing paperwork he has there says this gear accepts the factory bearing. I never even thought to peel the slipper pads off the spur gear to look for a bearing. I'm pretty new to working on RCs, obviously. I'm going to try 11/64 and then give the 11/68 a try.
