Default Bomber Motor and ESC Upgrade

Looking at getting a brushless motor and a new ESC combo. Not looking to spend more than $150 and was looking at buying the

PCtech HOBBYWING EZRUN G2 3652SL 3300KV Brushless Motor & Max10 60A ESC --- $130

Any other suggestions?

Also, is there any need to upgrade your radio when switching over?

Going brushless is not compatible with cheap.
You should save money until you can afford a mamba X ESC with a castle or Holmes Hobbies puller pro motor.

If I'm not mistaken, the ezrun combo isn't even sensored so you won't be able to crawl. It will cog at low speed.

Until then, I suggest a cheapo hobbywing 1080 with a Holmes Hobbies Trailmaster Sport 550 21T motor on a 3s LiPo. It crawls great, has good torque and it's fast enough for fun.

Thanks for the heads up. Would you say that Hobbywing setup is any faster than the stock 35T that comes in the Bomber?

Yeah
The 550 21T is about the speed of a 540 27T with more torque.
If you go 3s LiPo it's gonna be quite a bit faster.

But it's not sensored.
He has to run revolver motors and it's not for everyone with the noise.

Can you run a brushless motor with the hobbywing 1080 ESC? If I choose to switch to brushless down the road.

The programming box that comes with it will supposedly also program some of HobbyWings brushless ESCs, at least according to the little booklet - but the ESC itself is probably the best damned brushed ESC for the money in all of R/C... most people on this forum have several!

I have 4, and my crawlin' buddy has 3 or 4 as well.

If you upgrade the Bomber to brushless later, you will always have that little HW 1080 waiting to be dropped into whatever you buy next!

Why would you buy a clone?
It's already super cheap for the original hobbywing and you get a very good quality

+1 on not buying a clone. You can get them directly from the source: http://www.hobbywingdirect.com

I’m running a few 1080’s in my SCX rigs, a XERUN AXE 550 2700kv System in my Bomber & an XR8 SCT Pro ESC+XERUN 3600kv motor in another Bomber/2.2 Trophy build. Between all my trucks, it’s about a 50/50 split of Hobbywing & Tekin systems. Bang for buck, the HW stuff is on par with the big names.

Can you run your bomber lights off the Hobbywing 1080? If so where do you plug the stock mini light wire connectors?

You need to solder a servo plug and use the hobbywing 1080 program port on top

Or set the bec to your lights voltage and use an empty channel on the receiver
