Default Dingo Kit Headlight question

So i'm new to crawling and just picked up my first crawler, sxc10 dingo kit. I'm finalizing my build and putting together the body. I should have ordered the dingo headlight and grill kit weeks ago when rpp had them in stock, My question is.... the dingo body, or the new one atleast, shows it with head light buckets, or inserts. The kit comes with the headlight masks, but i cant seem to find the headlights in the kit... if they even exists. Normally you find them in the wheel well of the body or a separate piece of lexan... i absolutely hate the sticket method.... must have detail! I'm kinda getting pissed that they show it with buckets(even on the box) but don't seem to be included. Any help is appreciated. I just got the interior painted black, and im waiting for it to dry before i peel of the masking tape, i would like to get the body finished today but i'm not sure what to do with the headlights at this point. I'll be sure to post up some picks when the base model is finished.

My "NEW" Dingo kit didnt have the light bucket lexan pieces either.

Im not 100% sure, but I think at one time they may have come with them??

I would have to look over the SCX picture archive thread at the early kits,
but Im betting the new kits just are not going to include them anymore.

No reason you can just paint up the whole front end, minus the light bucket masks,
put the kit stickers on for now, and wait until the grill/light details get back in stock.

You just hold them in place, mark the circles for the lights on the outside and cut the holes,
so there is no problem doing it after its painted.

But I think to be sure there is no light leakage, you should paint it up without the bucket masks....

The older kits didn't come with them... I remember reading how much people disliked the lack of dimension in the headlights and the box didn't show them either.... I mean it shows them on the box i have...clear as day they are buckets with led holes!! lol. Either way sounds good, and now that you mention it, i should just paint the whole headlight area to keep light from bleeding through. Would have been nice to get what the box shows, but oh well. I got the led light kit, so i can do the side markers and tail leds. just need to figure out which ones to use circle or oval.

OK, because I swear,
I dug through my box half a dozen times looking for them!

I see a lot of people use the oval lights as markers,
but I got to tell you, they are so big they look goofy to me.

You might want to try this, I did it on my MOG build.

I cut a mask just a tiny bit smaller than the yellow side marker kit decal,
put it inside the body, then when I peeled it off
I ShoeGooed the bucket inside the body so the light would
shine through both the body and the decal.

Gave it a lot more dimention!

But you have to back the body color with black,
or the light will shine through the paint and ruin everything....

You could actually do this with all the kits light decals except for the headlights.....

But if you painted in the headlight surround to mimic the detail in that
aftermarket plate, you could cut a hole and put one of the bigger
Axial light buckets and lenses in just like with that kit.

looks good, i already painted the body tho, oops! lol. I think i can make do with the light buckets the 3mm ovals should work for the side markers and the 5mm ovals for the rear w/ the single circle for either markers or back up lights... so many options..!

And i dug through my box maybe 10 times looking for the headlights to no avail... sucha bummer they look good on the box... still trying to figure out what the deal is..

Well...

If your good with an an Xacto blade, and real careful,
you could still scrape away the paint just shy of the
size of the kit marker decal.

It dont need to be perfectly clear, just enough to let the light thru.
The decal will cover up anything you do during scraping.

Like you mentioned, just tossing a few more options your way.

How about some progress pics?

We love pics around here........!!!

Im just about to paint my dingo too,

Dingo Body needs.... something.....???

For what its worth to anybody that cares,
and I happened to find some of my old pics
looking up the MOG build for JackDawack,
I actually did this technique on my Cherokee build.

If you use the OEM SCX bumpers, and some bright LED's you can still get
some decent forward lighting useing the formed buckets in them,
yet still get some nice scale looking lights out of the
Lexan body......

All you have to do is mask the kit decals in reverse, (on the inside)
minus a bit for light leakage, back the body paint with blacking paint,
(if you use a light body paint, back with white first, then black)
and fabricate ONE LED bucket to shine through the entire quarter.

My pics dont do it justice, but done right even the lens screws
on the decals will show.

Here, have a look.........

When I built my Dingo I bought the axial light bucket set and a nice 3 dimensional grill to shoe goo on the front.

Damn Bro!

I wish you would have linked your build thread into mine.

Bubba got some skills!

I would have asked you how to get those crisp paint lines
in those closed gaps on the inside of the rear deck...

Seriously, nice job!

Hell, I might have sent my shell to YOU for paint!

Just need a little skill with painters tape, i'm still trying to figure out which tape works best, i used green this time and it bleed a little, i could have gone over the edges a few more time too i think used lighter coats.. Some update pics. Still running all the wires, hopefully will have it running in the next day or so... I shaved down the radio lid to make a flat surface and mounted the esc to it.

OMG, im such a noob! I just plugged 6 leds into the novak 6v out put connector for the lights that mount to the frame(bumpers)..... time to buy more leds...durrr. I'm using the 3racing led system for the body, if i piggy back 4 leds into one channel(ussually just 2 leds) will i see a significant decrease in output?
