Default BRONCO 2.2 Money Pit

After I saw every Axial SCX10 build I said, got to have one!

I have a 1969 FORD BRONCO that is under construction. At one point I had 7 of them and now down to 1. Some of you have seen my 1:6 CXT build and what a money pit that is. Thanks to some of the people in this forum I went with the AXIAL SCX10. I needed some thing that I could get on the road soon. Let me tell you after I opened the box even my Wife and little Girl jumped in to help that's how cool that thing is. As the build goes on if you have any tips let me know.

Thanks

Now that it is complete its time to take it apart and modify the ST out of it.

Relocating the servo to the frame rail was my first thing to do. Hand Brothers makes a cool steering kit for the SCX. But I found a cheaper way it’s not perfect but it works. Most of the parts you need come in the Axial SCX10 kit and the rest was in my junk box. I will do a brake down of pics.

The screws at the bottom came from my junk box and the stuff on top came in the kit.

Put the long screws in these holes.

Then screw in the servo mounts on the inside frame rail with the servo holes facing up.

I went and bought a Hitec HS-5645MG servo with a Robitronic Heavy duty servo arm.

You will need two Aluminum spacers that came in the kit and 4 washers.
Try to keep the servo level. It doesn’t fit snug and you will have to center it before screwing it in. Make sure to use flat washers when screwing down the servo. In a nut shell it works. I will post more soon with the steering.

Very nice build JJR.

Other than gaining aesthetic scale value, I don't understand the need for mounting the servo on the chassis. Wouldn't this contribute to steering &/or travel compromises when the axle moves up and down but the servo link is tied down to a non-suspended component? I can see the ball joint at each end of the servo link will offer an operable range but it seems there would still be binding or undesirable stress that would occur during extreme articulation when mounting the servo on the chassis. Yes/no? (I'm new - go easy)

I hope it helps others with their builds when on a budget.

Thanks

Yes you are right it is more for the scale look. By the time the links hit the suspension is already compressed and little if any stress. Good question

Well I got the steering in and every thing clears under full compression. The only thing that hits a little is the servo arm on the frame rail.

This link is from a TLT kit.

I had to use a con washer on the rod end for more length from RC4WD.

It's not too bad. I try-ed a longer steering link to the out side of the frame rail and still had a little bump steer. Then again it's just an RC Truck not my daily driver.

After I made a 1" suspension lift, I had to make a better steering arm because the angle was to steep and the bump steer was through the roof.Your steering rod looks like its right on the edge of being on to much of an agle as well.
Your off to a good start though
keep it up

My Vanquish High steer knuckles come in.

I had to drop the steering link more by adding a spacer with the con washer.

The links hit a little at full compression.

I still have a very little bump steer.
The only problem now is I need some CVD’S

I know when you lift a 1:1 truck you need a drop pitman arm to keep the links in the right geometry since ideally they should be level so maybe you could modify or find a servo arm like this

If you cant find one hopefully some company will start making them this mod seems to be very popular, I plan on doing this to mine when I get one.
Edit: I fixed the pics sorry about that

I put the steering link level and it hits right away. Even on my 1:1 same problem. I cant see the pics?

Thanks yes I am, The chromoly tube steel came in today.
The first thing that will be made is the bumpers.
The next thing is a Mold. I am going to make some Carbon fiber scale Race seats.
