The stronger magnets hold on without sliding, ou really have to push on them to get the top to move. The tanks take on terrain similar in ways to what these trucks do and the lid stays on well. I picked mine up from www.mcmaster.com and they have a variety of shapes, sizes, and thicknesses.

I have a question, what do you guys use for filler on styrene bodies? I have heard it called bondo but a link would be cool. Thanks.

Good for you for trying it. Keep at it. The sanding is the worst...it seems endless.
Thank you. I second that sanding part. A dremel and an electric sander helped me out a lot. Being too aggressive with them will start to melt the styrene and make it bubble. Don't ask me how I know.

Awesome, thanks. That may be my best choice.

I use(and a lot of others) Bondo brand "glazing & spot putty". You can pick it up anywhere, even Walmart has it. It comes in a tube. It works best on thin fills and scratches. Tends to crack if its too thick. Use styrene to fill big holes and sand it smooth.

Update: All 4 fenders are shaped

Took a break from sanding and mounted the wheels to some spare mud thrashers. I think these tires will look even better if I dropped the body some more. That way you don't see the frame. Good idea?

Dropping the body would look a little better. If you can't drop it some Proline Rocksliders would help hide the frame.

I'm still trying to decide if I want to tacke a custom body. So far yours is looking great!

Thanks. You should try a custom body for sure. I'm going to build my own rock sliders.

It's officially mounted. I dropped the body one hole more on the posts. I'm happy with where it is and since I utilized the stock posts I can change it for whatever tires I use. 99% sure it will be mud thrashers.

I drove it for a minute in the yard, but forgot to take pics. Here are some posers.

Body height looks great. Are you planning on wheel wells?

I will do something inside, but not sure how elaborate I'll get.

I thought I took some pictures of the entire process, but...

I printed out some images of 1:1 fenders and scaled them up.

You can see the front fender pattern at the bottom

Then I just traced the outline to some styrene and stacked up 3 pieces of .060 styrene

I let the glued joints dry over night. Then I took to it with a dremel sanding wheel and an electric palm sander. Finished up with a sanding block and fine paper.

The new body height looks good. Mirrors are a nice touch. Looks great so far. I am still trying to decide on a body and what to build. Thanks for the encouragement.

Looks great! You don't see many yotas that color. If you don't mind me asking what paint/color is that? If settled on building a FJ40 and the 1:1 I'm basing it off of is silver and black. What have you got planned for the top on the back?

Thanks. It's Dupli color gun metal lacquer. Lots of flake in it. It's almost like spraying glitter lol. A couple coats of clear should make it look real nice. I'm probably going to paint the topper black.
