METALHEAD'S Ess See Ecks Ten So I'll spare you all the details and not be "That Guy" who shows you all the steps it takes to build a stock ass rig. So, we'll just start out right here. :) http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL240.../373888595.jpg I'm gonna stick with mostly stock components, especially to start out. On a kit like this I like to get a feel for the stock elements before I change things out. The only things that I did change at this point are the wheels and tires. I'm running with black on black Axial beadlocks and the G8 Prolines. Anyway, here we go. I'm going for a trail rig/pre-runner-type pickup-style deal-theme. "thumbsup" :-P We'll just see where I end up. I let the build kinda take form as I go. Here's what I have planned: Stock SCX-10 (stretched wheelbase to 12 inches) Axial BLACK Beadlocks/G8 Proline Flatirons Novak Rooster Crawler Trinity CO27 Monster Stock Pro Motor (fo' spinnin' wheels 8)) Winch (probably go with 3Racing) 2 piece GMC Sierra body Spektrum RX w/Nomadio React TX I'm gonna go ahead and just let the pictures do most of the talking. Cab: http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL240.../373888619.jpg Box...er ahhh....box sides :? http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL240.../373888607.jpg Funny, this doesn't look like a box side.... http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL240.../373888613.jpg I braced the cab with some L-bracket aluminum and used red Loctite to fasten the two brackets together. This will be a permanent part of the cab. http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL240.../373888646.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL240.../373888676.jpg Here's a preview of the body. I cut some dead skin off the bottom of both pieces to lean it up. I also trimmed the rear of the box, along the bottom for obvious reasons. Then I started trimming out the top of the box with some styrene. I added the cross-brace across the back for rigidity. It's only temporary at this point. http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL240.../373888705.jpg A cab-on teaser shot... http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL240.../373888747.jpg Well, that's all for now. I've been ping-ponging between this and another project. Currently, this bastard has my attention, so I should update pretty soon. Thanks for lookin! |
Wow, nice body. That fits the scx layout nicely. Looks like someone is a bit of an artist to with some sketch renderings of the planned build in one of those pictures. "thumbsup" |
Looks good so far! Can't wait to see how it turns out "thumbsup" |

Well, here are a few updates. I got some bodywork done. I got a coat of filler on the box sides and shot some "primer" over it. Anymore, I just use Fusion as a primer. It's not necessarily a high build, but it sticks to plastic so much better than the last few primers I've tried. I wet sand everything anyway, so it sands off easily enough, it dries fast, and it feathers out well. Anyway... http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL240.../373888787.jpg I also filled the back panel of the cab. I used some button cap screws to mount the panel to the crossmember. It's not stock looking, or pretty, but it's a price I'm willing to pay for stability's sake. Actually, it kinda gives it some kinda racing feel, which I always had in mind anyway. http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL240.../373888771.jpg Here's a couple of shots of the rear links I built to stretch the wheelbase. It's just over 12" right now. http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL240.../373888799.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL240.../373888805.jpg Well, that's all for now. I'm still working on it, so I'll get some updates in a little bit. I'm happy with the way this outfit is going. Like I said initially, I'm going for a trail rig/pre-runner-type pickup-style deal-theme, and I'm getting there I think. :) |
Dude..that looks awesome..you should keep the bed off and make it a truggy!!!!!! "thumbsup":mrgreen::shock:"thumbsup" so, I am now putting in my order for a set of those rear links....need some for the comp I'm gathering parts for.. |

Oh OOOOOOUCH! :flipoff: Quote:
Okay, as promised....updates. So to dispell any rumors, about ANOTHER TRUGGY (squatch :flipoff:), I figured I'd get on with mounting the box. I'm not going for a traditional frame mounted setup because it would not only be a massive pain in the ass, but it wouldn't follow my "trail rig/pre-runner-type pickup-style deal-theme". So, I did the this: http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL240.../374181909.jpg Followed by some of this: http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL240.../374181901.jpg Which gave me this: http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL240.../374181897.jpg Which I like. :) My next step was to get on with mounting the cab to the frame, seeing as I just mated the box to the cab. So, I built these guys: http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL240.../374181889.jpg Which mount to the frame like so: http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL240.../374181892.jpg Which the cab mounts to. (...knee bone connected to the leg bone, the leg bone connected to the hip bone, the hip bone connected to the....) So that's all for now. I'll get some more pics as the progress continues. Thanks for looking. |
Is that a Chevy body with Ford interior? |

Looks great so far. I like the tire to fender clearance , gives it a good aggressive stance . |
