Default SCX-10 Trailer Puller

Hey guys, just finished my trailer that I'm putting my wraith on. Just went out with my scx-10 with a 20 turn motor and smoked it within 5 minutes of pulling the trailer. Just wondering what would be the best motor/gearing combination for my scx-10.

You need a far more powerful motor to tow a trailer, at minimum a respectable brand 35t geared way down, like 10t pinion or very large spur. A 55T motor might even be better.

^ what he said...

tho' I'd replace the word "powerful" with torque.

Tho' a 35T mtr might squeak by if geared low enough...
It may become too hot if the gearing is too tall.
Or the haul load is too heavy

I would believe that a 45T - 55T motor would suffice better
and offer increased torque for hauling or pulling a heavier load.
It would also be smoother as to throttle start up and transitioning.

RPM is not generally advantageous for hauling or pulling loads.

...That said

I utilize a 35T motor geared down accordingly...
but pull a lightweight trailer behind my hauler.

Something in a 550 size would be advantageous as well. I don't know what all is out there, but I'd say that the cheap Traxxas Titan (550 size) 21 turn seems to have at least as much, if not more torque (and more wheel speed) than an axial 35 turn trail breaker (540 size), so finding an even higher turn 550 could be a good solution.

Default SCX-10 Trailer Puller

I use an Axial 55T, no problems. I tow a full size trailer.

ive got a holmes hobbies 3500kv brushless motor in my tow rig on 3s lipo, geared 9/56, thinking of going 10/56 cause the 9t pinion was a little iffy on mesh (not quite close enough to my liking)

This is good stuff!! I have the stock electronics in my Honcho, from what I've read, i should regear?

Edit: This is what I have, give me your thoughts on the "scaleness" (if that's a word), does it work, or is my tow rig to small?

That's exactly what I'm thinking, it will be cheaper to build a new trailer. I keep buying rigs to pull that d@mn thing.

Trailer is the right size for the SCORE though, lol. Look at 1/6 through 1/8 scale for your tow rig.
