Default Tubed Tamiya Bronco

The other day I saw Madscrambler's little brute at the UTRCRC Scale Adventure and knew I had to have something that size again. I've always loved driving shorter wheelbase scalers. I think around 10 1/2 to 10 3/4" wheelbase is almost perfect and I've been wanting to build a Tamiya Bronco ever since they came out. So the plan is a gnarly tubed Bronco, kind of like a mini Guido.

Here's the plans so far

Based off a SCX10 chassis
Shorten the Wheelbase to 10 3/4"
Shorten chassis to fit
Tubed cage and bumpers all out of 1/8" for better scale
Metal boatsides and Aluminum top.
Tamiya Bronco body, top removed, dove tailed rear, flat gunmetal gray
RC4WD 1.9 Rok Lox,
Either Black Axial 1.9 beadlocks or white RC4WD Steel wheels
Servo winch front for sure, probably rear
35t motor
Tekin FX-R
Front, rear, and rock lights
Hopefully interior but it's going to be tight! I might have to just use the interior out of a Axial TR or something like that.
Chassis mounted steering, probably Hand Bros

Anyway, onto the progress pics. There's a lot of work to do still but here's yesterday's progress. There's quite a bit of bracing left to do. Also the rear cage and bumper. I was hoping to get a lot more work done today but my wife didn't end up having to work so that's not going to happen any more. After Christmas though I have a couple days to work

If my wife works night I'll stay up til 1 or 2 building. It's the only way I get anything done

I'm glad you like it. It will never hold a candle to Guido but I'm still very excited about it. I'm at work right now and all I want to do is go home and build.

Thanks! I've been wanting to do something like this for a while. I don't understand why there aren't many builds with this body.

Looks like a good start I have this body also and plan to put it on one of my scx10's. What did you do to shorten the wheelbase??

I just shortened the rear links about 5/8". It's pretty easy to do, just cut then re-tap the links. The rear is getting a 4 link and the Front, hopefully a Hand Bros steering it. I had to shorten the front and rear of the chassis too.

Thanks for the info, I thought it would have to be shortened more than that. This will be easier than I was thinking. I really like the Hands Bros steering, I have it on one scx10, I need to get a couple more kits.

Keep in mind I stretched it quite a bit though. Actual wheelbase is closer to 9.5" I believe.

It's starting to feel that way now. Anymore, if I don't have tube work on a scaler then it just doesn't cut it.

Zach you have started like 5 builds in the amount of time that I have taken to order parts for one. You must have kids mounting wheels and doing all the time consuming stuff. Keep up the good work man.

Thanks and me neither. I'm hoping to get a bunch done tomorrow. I'm heading south next weekend and would love to drive it down there.

I've tried to have the kid mounting wheels, he can't quite do it yet Once I get going I build very quickly. It's just getting time. I have most of tomorrow to build though, unless my wife get's called off. Today I've been building Legos all day, I wish they were tamiya kits
