I have a honcho but want to get the new proline jeep XJ Cherokee body. The cherokee's wheelbase according to Proline is 11.8". so basically id have to shorten my wheelbase right? do i just take out those extenders or whould the lower links need to be replaced? Basically whats the easiest way to get my honcho 2 11.8" wheelbase? lol Thanks |

if it were me i'd just make a new set of links. you could just order the axial parts for the standard scx10 links too. because you dont have the body in hand yet you don't know how its gonna sit on the chassis to line up with the bumpers and shit. but yes the lower links need to be replaced, just shortening up the uppers will only rotate the axles, changing your pinion/steering angles.

Change the rear linkage. Use shorter lower links, and pull the spacer on the upper |

the rear lower links are the longest, you can change to a shorter one, that should reduce the overall length. i do not think that reducing the extenders will reduce the overall wheelbase, but it will change the angle of the axle. i am running bent lower and upper rear links, and the honcho is definitely shorter.

Thank you guys for the quick replies n help! I think i can cut n shorten the rear links n tap em, and take off the spacer from the upper Y-Link. but instead of that should i just upgrade to the bent links that are already shorter? |

yes, the bent links from axial, are shorter than the standard honcho rear links, i think it is 101 mm vs 106 mm, or 5 mm shorter. The high clearance bent links are even shorter, i think by 2 mm. you may need to get 2 sets as the bent links tend to hit the upper links when articulated, read the thread below before you mod. problem with bent links on scx i am running two sets of 101 mm 30deg bent links in the rear of my honcho. you can also get shorter plastic ball joints. |

u dont need to shorten ur wheelbase its off by half a inch just raise the body up and go with bigger tires shuch as rock crushers or Rox Lox because its just goin to be off a quarter a inch so do that and if ur not satisfied order the shorter links

I wouldnt do anything until you have the body in hand. The honcho the front and rear axles are pushed out. So you might need to move both ends. Are you putting an interior in it? The tap you need to retap the links after shortening them is a m3x.05. Good luck and post some pictures of the finished product?

You could always just keep the wheel base stock and mount the body back a little giving you a stretched front wheel base for better approach angle, then comp cut the rear. Just a thought not really sure which way your going with your build but this would perform the best!

When I was extending my wheelbase a came up with some calculations using different Axial link combinations. I'll list them below. They will show you the wheelbase of an SCX10 with the links completely horizontal and the wheelbase at the factory ride height. So if your using stock axial shocks, 1.9 Axial wheels with Flat Iron tires your actual wheelbase will be approx 1/2" less then with the links completly horizontal. Hope this helps! Front Links + Rear Links = Links horizontal or Links at factory ride height 91mm+ 91mm= 11.91"or 11.41" 91mm+ 98mm= 12.18"or 11.68" 91mm+ 101mm= 12.31"or 11.81" 91mm+ 106mm= 12.50"or 12" 98mm+ 98mm= 12.45"or 11.95" 98mm+ 101mm= 12.58"or 12.08" 98mm+ 106mm= 12.77"or 12.27" 101mm+ 101mm= 12.41"or 11.91" 101mm+ 106mm= 12.90"or 12.40" 106mm+ 106mm= 13.09"or 12.59" Last edited by Killa-Cotton; 05-08-2010 at 03:21 PM. |
