Default Red XJ

I made wheel wells, I don't know if you can tell, but makes big difference when dirt tries to get in and more realistic looking.
I also remade the spare tire mount i created. I have pictures of it, just not on this camera.

I'm thinking of getting into 1.55's, but still thinking. let me know what you guys think. yay or nay?

One of the best lookin' XJ's I've seen! I'd leave it exactly the way it is.

im thinking of doing the same for my honcho .. how thick is the styrene you used to make the wheel arches and how did you bend them so neatly??

what I did first was get a piece of paper and have it under the screw that holds the suspension. I draw the template and cut out the styrene. I used .040 styrene. next I get the width of the distance from the chassis to the body. for the xj, it was 52mm. Next I test fitted it around the cut out styrene from the template. where ever there is a curve, I get the 52mm width strip and run it against the edge of a table that is rounded. Once thats finished, the cement is ready to be added. This is where its tricky because it wants to bend back to straight form. Best way is to start from one end and keep adding 10mm to be cemented until you reach the other side. I also took advantaged of the front and rear screws that hold the bumper. The rear was tricky, but added a piece of styrene onto the wheel well and screw it on. surprisingly it stays put very well!

Tried to describe that to the best of my ability at this time. So tired!! I'll add more pics if needed.

I also shortened the shocks by 6mm by adding o-rings inside the shock and added the rubber on the bottom of the shocks. So less articulation, but it keeps it from rubbing on the body even when the body is lowered to the max. It still climbs and feels some what realistic.

wheel wells are the best, easy-to-do mod that can be done to a lexan or styrene body. Besides helping with the looks of the rig, they help keep out an amazing amount of crud from getting into the insides of the body.

I use the black U.V. resistant styrene like you used, it saves on painting.

Looks like the Tamiya Body Accessory Parts Set. Am I right?

This XJ is amazing in detail and one of the best I've seen!!!

I'm working on my own XJ project and am trying to get ideas for what to do with it. I wanted to added the wipers and mirrors for details and hope they don't get knocked off when crawling.

I'm also trying to match my real-life 1:1 1999 XJ which was painted factory "Chili Pepper Red". What brand and color of paint did you use? Pactra Racing Red?

Your wheel wells also add that nice "finished" and realistic touch. Awesome job!

Sorry if it sounds like I'm trying to copy your setup! I'm also adding about 8 LEDs to give it a nice finish. I have a build thread if you're interested.

haha no problem. I did use pactra racing red, backed with tamiya silver, light spray of tamiya black, and another light spray of krylon satin black.

Cool, that's about the same pattern I used.
