Opinions on a 15t motor for scx10? Good idea?
 

Thinking of putting a 15t drift meister motor on my scx..and a 17pinion...any opinions? Of what it will be like? Or am I going to break something doing this? Thanks heaps. http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/1103/

Wondering if someones already done it as last thing I want is breaking things

I ran a Reedy 19 turn in my Honcho for about 4 months before I sold it..

ran great, and I never broke anything.

You'll be fine. You're gonna loose a lot of low end control though....

Thanks guys appreciate it...just after something different I'm sick of my 45t with 22pinion...what if I put 15 and gear it down to 17pinion? Won't make a difference in torque?

You're still going to loose the smoothness. You should really gear down and volt up. 35T on 3s with 14-16 tooth pinion is the industry standard now. I run that with a 14T and love it (comp and scaler).

going that low turn on a motor will looses you almost all of the torque....it wont matter if u try to gian it back by going to smaller pinion. u will still have a stalling problem under crawling loads.. if ur just out for speed then i say go for it...as long as ur esc can handle the lower turns...but if ur going for crawling then you'll be disapointed....im going to a 35t in my scaler the 27t i have in it now is just too weak in my opinion..

I ran this same set-up for a year 15t motor on 17t pinion with 3s"thumbsup".

this thing blast like a fawking rocket and for torque I would say I can't complain it get's the job done. The only part I broke was the axle housing, but this was due to a bad fall.

I recently switch to 35t motor on 16t pinion, but this time it's on 4s, and man thing hauls ass. We just had our 1.9 scale comp last weekend I placed 2nd, I think it did it's job"thumbsup".

we also had, just for fun a tug of war, and the 35t on 4s didn't dissapoint.

see i dont get it, is the small the pinion gear the faster it goes? i put a 17t pinion on my 27 turn motor and it seemed slower, when i put my 20 t pinion on it went faster. i also orderd a 15t fireball motor, with a 17t pinion...>>?

I had a Trinity Green Machine 27t Motor in my honcho and it was fun, no problems

and to anwser the question, A SMALLER pinion will give you more Torque, a larger pinion will give you less torque and more top end speed. is goes with ALL motors, you can get more wheel speed out of a 45t motor by upping the piioin, but you have to watch your temps because you can burn a motor up by gearing it TOO HIGH.

Them Venom motors suck, i had one in my sons stampede and it burnt up after 3 runs and thats with proper break in proceedure. maybe i got a bad one, but thats why they are cheap, hit and miss i guess
