Ford Scx10 crew signing in

Hey guys, just got my kit today. I have all my components piece together except for what body I want to go with. My original plan was the f350 hilift, but decided against because of cost and durability. Another option was the tamiya bronco, but I'm against cutting the frame down to match the wheelbase. I do have a proline f100, but the body post holes are already cut for a tmaxx.

Any other ford body suggestions? I'm looking for lexan and somewhat good quality detail.

You can always use velcro to secure the F100 to the SCX and avoid having all the body post wholes. I have seem many do it and they like it. Looks good to.

there for you can have 1 body for 2 things

matrix243 10-16-2010 02:02 PM

ya, I've seen a few use it. great idea.

ProLine makes an F650 body, nice looking, just wish I could find time to paint mine.....

Hmm, wheelbase is only about 1/2" off, or 1/4" off centre from wheel.

Do you have any pics of one on the chassis? Might not be too out of proportion with 2.2's.

Looks like a great start"thumbsup". BTW: I see you share a love of mustangs lol. The showcase in the background of the first picture has some tastefull models in it:mrgreen:

I have yet to take the F650 out of the bag. Still thinking of paint designs...

matrix243 10-27-2010 10:06 AM

Anybody know if one of these ford raptor bodies would fit, or even look close with some 2.2 tires?

Right on man, thanks.

Think the revos like 14.1, slash is 13.2 and the stampede is 10.6.

matrix243 10-28-2010 07:32 PM

one more to add.

I'm looking into it but apparently the body is a little bit shorter then the slash wheelbase. Still trying to determine if it's close to the 11.4".
Any suggestions?

Took a couple pics even though I won't be using this body. Looks good though.

Check out the proline bronco body, I think it has the same wheel base as a honcho.

Ty@Tekin 11-04-2010 10:50 AM

The Honcho WB is about 1/2" longer than the Bronco body from HPI, I had to put shorter links in the rear to get it to line up. But I love the way mine looks!

matrix243 11-04-2010 12:18 PM

I measure the proline bronco body and think it was still a bit short like 10.75".

I'm not a 100% yet but I might go with that diablo body, which is a short course version of the 2004 ford lightning concept. even has the side pipes.

matrix243 11-04-2010 12:19 PM

benders rig.

sweet! raptor body and tbone brace came in. bulletproof merv ftw.

only the raptor body wheelbase is about an 1" too long. pretty dam close though.

have to decide on extending frame or leave the body for a slash.

but check out the clearance!

Doing work with my Bronco, it's turning out so good!

sweet. where did you get the exhaust tip? dual tip would be cool on the lightning concept.

It's actually a frame piece from the old Tamiya TLT kit that I bolted to the SCX frame and bent the screw to angle out like that. 1/4" brake line would work too but this looks like stainless.

unless you're referring to the braces, their tbones for my revo, which I had just broke the chassis on.

matrix243 11-19-2010 12:39 PM

Hey Ty, I bought the proline bumpers but I'm not sure how the body posts are used to mount them. How did you mount yours?

Chachi_RC 12-01-2010 12:25 PM

Hey matrix! Thanks for the PM. I really like the Raptor body, I am just trying to figure out which one would work best on my Honcho chassis. I know none of them will be perfect, but maybe one will be close enough. The Honcho does have a longer wheelbase as compared to the standard SCX10, so that may help some, but width and overall size will make a difference as well. If you can, dimensions would help, or even other pictures (overhead, front, etc) would be great. Like I said, and help you can provide would be awesome! Thanks matrix! By the way, I really like the look of the old Ford truck body on that chassis!

matrix243 12-01-2010 01:24 PM

Cool.

I was also thinking the stampede body is smaller but it doesn't match the wheelbase. Maybe like 1 or 2" shorter based on this pic.

I did get dimensions from I guy that purchased the actual slash raptor body, maybe someone on there has the stampede.

matrix243 12-01-2010 01:27 PM

Actually the slash body would be close fit if I got longer links to change the wb. But the other thing to consider is the overhang. There is a fair amount compared to my f100.

md7989 12-01-2010 02:27 PM

What about the Proline 2008 Ford F250 body? Wheelbase is at 12.8" (a tad long for most folks), but I'm actually going to order it and use it on my TTC style rig. Plus the fact we've always had Super Duty trucks in the family adds onto the fact I'm using it...lol

I actually have one of those bodies on hand, and it does fit pretty well actually. I don't have it mounted at all, but just setting it on my Honcho, the wheel wells actually match up pretty nicely.

I just really like the Raptor! That is why I am interested in that body. The thing with the F250 body I have, is that is too short to fit a Revo 3.3, so the Raptor for the Revo 3.3 would be too long for the Honcho.

matrix243 12-01-2010 03:44 PM

Although lexan makes sense for paint damage prevention, I want one hard body for show. And I totally love the tamiya high lift f350 for that.

bassinguy 12-01-2010 06:37 PM

Nice paint job. Why don.t you want to use the ford body?8)

matrix243 12-01-2010 09:18 PM

The f100 body is actually for my tmaxx. Its got the body and bumper holes. But it looks really cool on the scx. Kind of undecided.

I didn't see any pictures of the back, but I wonder what it would look like lowered a bit. You might be able to fashion a winch to fit where the holes are in the front bumper. That is a sweet looking body.

matrix243 01-11-2011 09:30 AM

Well I got my 2.2 tsl boggers installed, but if I want to keep my wheelwells stock, the body needed to be lifted even more to clear for max suspension articulation. Its alot higher then I wanted but would like to keep my body untrimmed. Maybe inner fenders would help for the look.

What do you guys think?

putting a ford body on any crawler makes it looks better. For that matter, putting one on anything makes it better. ;-) I'm a ford man, as you can tell. I'll be honest, I think my Exceed Maxstone converted to an axial looks great with my blue/tan f-250 super duty body slapped on it.
