New to the board and to R/C. My 4 year old son got an HSP Crawler last Christmas: the HSP has been great and with the exception of some plastic rod-ends nothing has broken.
My son's driving skills have improved to a point where I feel he can move up to the real thing. (And he has been a good boy)


So herewith the start of a very simple build:

SCX10 kit


Rastar LR3




Here's the plan:
2 x 15Kg Chinese Waterproof servo's, one will be CM using the poorman's method, the other servo will be turned into a mid-mounted winch using the Grizzly method.
HSP ESC - I have a spare from my son's HSP and it worked very well while driving two motors, cheap.
HSP 4 channel AM RX , also a spare from my son's HSP 4WS, worked well, even after the truck fell into the pond, no glitches and very cheap. Just need another radio.
No-name brand Chinese steel/alloy drive-shafts.
Possibly some 1.55 Mud Thrashers in the future.
8mm key-steel for sliders and cross-members.
Chinese knock-off's as spare wheels.
Cell-phone seats.
Interior.
Roof rack.
Steel bumpers.
28T motor or 65T Crawler motor.
The Iceman as the driver.

Drive-shafts, had to be shortened by about 10mm as shown.




CMS, used a servo mount from a robot shop.


Virtually no bumpsteer with this set-up, the draglink however, hits the trackbar just before the shocks reach the rubber bumpstop. Will have to make the some adjustments to the rod-end on the servo arm or change it out to the Axial plastic rod-end.


The Iceman looking very smug here, little does he know I'm getting a cap to hide his ridiculous haircut, or that his legs are too long.
He will be a double amputee in the not too distant future...

Very nice Iam sure your son will like it. Only one problem I see is, you will need another SCX-10 for yourself.
