New guy here

Figured since I've broken the truck twice, I should probably post and let you folks know you got a new lurker.
Been playing with the new SCX10 Honcho for a couple days after getting it built. Got some rubber for it, gonna snag new wheels...all that will go along with a snazzy Pro Line Cherokee body painted up to replicate a buddy's Jeep.

Knew there would be a use for the ancient LRP F1 Pro Reverse ESC I've had for a few years doing nothing (please ignore the carpet...the coffee table normally sits there, lol)

C'mon, man! The truck just got done!

Picking up an OG (used) Revolver outrunner motor, going to pair that up with the Sidewinder that just came out of the short course truck with a 3 cell 2200ish mah pack. Right now with the Integy 55t/LRP F1 combo and a 2 cell it's got enough bottom end grunt, just doesn't seem to have the wheel speed it needs.

Any brilliant ideas on gearing? Should the stock 14/87 pinion/spur be sufficient?

Just dug up a snazzy body from when I was going to install an extended chassis on my Savage...stay tuned, ha.

ThunderbirdJunkie 01-11-2011 10:22 PM

Nothing particuarly interesting here yet. Just a bone stock Honcho aside from a Traxxas rear driveshaft, some TSLs, a 3 cell 2100 E-flite battery with a Sidewinder now.

Gonna have to knock some wheelbase out of it. Using front links on the rear will shorten the wheelbase enough for the PL XJ body right? And anybody got any gearing/setup ideas for a 3 cell w/a Holmes Hobbies Revolver?

Thanks dudes :D

Pro Line TSL's, good choice. "thumbsup"

flascx10 01-11-2011 10:38 PM

Ah, i miss the new rig smell and the non-scratched chassis, those times are long gone for me :lmao: welcome!

ThunderbirdJunkie 01-11-2011 10:48 PM

Thanks, guys.
Now if only PL included the TSL/memory foam smell with their short course tires, I'd be a happy camper

eyeopenher 01-11-2011 11:27 PM

yes..

you have to use the shorter links wit the proline xj body. building on right now... after you install the 4 link wit the shorter links it fits perfect... i like your buddy's rig. i got a 97 xj. very cool... "thumbsup"

ThunderbirdJunkie 01-11-2011 11:37 PM

Yeah, it's a pretty sweet rig. 33" BFG MTs, locked at both ends, don't remember which lift. 4.0, radius armed, etc. I'm thinking 1.55" RC4WD whatever-those-BFG KM1s-are and not decided yet on wheels.

The stock SCX10 TR bumpers aren't far off that Warn bumper he's got, so I picked up the front bumper set...gonna have to do a little work to it, but no biggie. He's got a one-off rear with a swingout, so that's gonna require some custom fabrication.

Too bad there'll never be a KJ body:flipoff:

eyeopenher 01-12-2011 12:38 AM

lol

idk anyone wit a liberty but i am surprised they dont make one... nice mudding shot for a lib too.... one last coat of paint on my pl xj body and its off to bed for me. tomorrow starts the final build for my scx10 xj.... i hope... lol. well its never final. but final for this week.... lol "thumbsup"

ThunderbirdJunkie 01-12-2011 12:48 AM

There's been quite a few smaller hardbody'd toy-grade RC Libertys, but they never pop up on ebay. Just not popular enough, I s'pose. I can't take credit for the picture, I was just sawin the wheel and hittin the throttle, lol.

The Losi micro crawler's width is nearly perfect for the hardbody Liberty body I've got hangin out here, but that's another thread for another time :D

eyeopenher 01-12-2011 12:53 AM

i hear that..

i have a new bright hard body that i want to put on something. maybe next scx10..... we shall see.. "thumbsup" have a good night man. heading to bed. i'm an east coaster. peace brotha

ThunderbirdJunkie 01-12-2011 01:11 AM

UGH! I can't find a New Bright KJ body anywhere! Keep your eyes peeled...let me know if you find one!

I'm thinking hybrid Wheely King/CC01 since they're IFS.

Have a good night dude.

eyeopenher 01-12-2011 10:19 AM

snow...

yay, we got 10 inches of snow last night.. but back on track. yes, i will surely keep my eye out for you... "thumbsup"

Is this what you mean by swing out, and I mean a steel bumper with a swing out tire carrier.

libertys are jeeps for girls!:lmao::flipoff:

the xj you have planed to build is gonna be sick! i like the color!"thumbsup"

Rivas Concepts 01-12-2011 11:06 AM

I am looking forward to seeing your build. I built an xj but will be redoing it after seeing some cool builds on here.

Yup, that's exactly it. Too bad that bumper doesn't look like my buddy's XJ's bumper since the work would already be done:mrgreen:
Gonna have to hunt around and see if they have the swingout by itself.

Hey, girls dig it:flipoff:
I think the hardest part of the build is going to be figuring out how to make the light buckets shallow like the FF700s and 500s he's got on it.

you cant be baiting them in like that!:lmao:

saw you can lower your battery tay down to get a little better COG

ThunderbirdJunkie 01-12-2011 08:04 PM

Yeah, I was thinking about that today. Whattya think, just chop the battery tray standoffs in half, ditch the radio box, and relocate the electronics?

Not sure where I'd put all that stuff though. I like the scale gas tank location at the back of the chassis (since it does resemble an XJ tank once it's back there), but then where to put the ESC?

Ah well...gonna have to tear into it tonight and do some figurin.
