Default Scx10 Exo Caged XJ

It started life as a rtr honcho. I took the chassis apart and sandblasted and powdercoated it red along with all the suspension pieces. Mig welded the cage, Nothing fancy or high budget, Just simple homemade baddassery.

I didnt take too many detailed pics because i was too busy working in it. But hopefully you guys like it.

Just your average scx10 honcho on ebay 105mm shocks.

Proline body painted and cut the fenders and bumpers off. Started bending the rod into shape.

Did the other side, made a front bumper with mini stinger and welded it to some tabs that olt in place to the chassis.

Started working on the roof

Cut out, shaped, and welded in a rear bumper, side bars and weld the roof portion in.

Welded the upper fender bars that mount onto the stinger, the bars that go over the hood as well.

Started working on the rear tire carrier. Welded it directly to the rear bumper.

Added some upper braces to the tire carrier, finished welding the roof section and added some reinforcing rods tk the front fender section. Gave it a quick sandblast to clean it up.

Nice and clean.

Powdercoated the cage satin black. Bolted up the stock light buckets, warn winch, rear tire, and gas cans.

Final thoughts. Its got.just enough extra weight to make it fun. Handles a lot better, definitely needed those hub extensions to balance it out. Stock 27t system can barely take it. So i upgraded to a 4pole 3500kv sensored brushless motor. Its got more than enough torque and
Torque and speed to get me out of the tightest jams. Yet its slow and responsice enough to tiptoe around slow and delicate spots.

Next upgrade is aluminum beadlock wheels and stiffer foams, have some rubber foam at work im going to try out.

Love it. Also love the fact you made the exo so the doors are still "functional".

Looks awesome! What's it made from, and how does it attach to the frame?

Shocks are working pretty good, running 50w in them.

nice exo cage! thought about lining the outside of the windows with pinstripe tape to create window trim? it would help a lot with breaking up the white.

I know I need to do it on my red Cherokee.

I was going to just tint the windows. Decided not to go with the wraith interior. Shes already a fat pig at 10lbs.
Going to mod the shocks with some thicker o-rings to keep it from leaking, and sand blast the blue annodizing of the shock body with baking soda.

Thank god i welded the cage instead of brazing it. Just took a nasty digger. Rolled down about 300ft on a 45 degree dirt and rock hill. It just kept rolling and rolling and finally landed on its feet and kept going.

Lost the fuel cans and the cage has a few scratches, but she held up solid. Almost sure i can stand on it and it wont break.
