scx10 monster truck project

so i am beginning to plan the build. converting my stock axial honcho into a killer big ass monster truck.

here is the current plan, tell me what you think and i am open to suggestions for the project.

-bolt on axial ax10 tvp chassis plates to lower motor/trans, lower links, and straighten drive shaft angles.

-axial axles with aluminum rear lockers, front knuckles, all aluminum links

-12mm - 17mm wheel adapters and 20mm wideners

-clod buster wheels and tires, unless they are too big, then maybe a wheely king sized chevron tire.

-traxxas velineon 3500kv brushless system thats in it now.

-steering? maybe axle mounted. maybe a wheely king style chassis mounted setup all aluminum to eliminate flex.

thats the basic idea. any input would be great!

here's a pic when i got bored and threw some 135mm shocks and 2.2 proline hammers on. i was just thinking... why not bigger?

You should go with some 4.0 rubber and see how that would look.

im looking for a slightly more scale look, hence the clod wheels and tires.

40 series wheels just dont look the part.

Twiztid Metal 03-16-2011 12:10 PM

What kinda shocks are you using? kina look like the E-maxx style shocks.

m0nster 03-17-2011 11:31 AM

those were just for a bored mock up. 130mm rc4wd shocks.

slipangle 03-17-2011 12:38 PM

y not just start with an ax10? larger tires are just gonna rub on the chassis and will reduce steering angle right?

m0nster 03-17-2011 12:48 PM

the idea is to bolt ax10 chassis plates to the scx10 chassis. for lower cg and lower link mounts.

i think starting with an ax10 would be too flexy.

and this gives me a setup I can undo easily if I wanted to.

I also have some long wheel extenders and will have the clod wheel adapters to get the width Ill need.

hey bud i did the same thing also,i used clod wheels and tires but i had to use 1 inch wheels spacers and then had to remove the bumpers and nerf bars because the tires hit everything but that truck went everywhere ,i used the same motor also with lipo and it was fast but the only problem is this USE A SERVO SAVER or something because the first time i jumped it and landed side way it stripped out the servo. have fun tho its a blast with those tires

do you have pics or a build thread?

GSXR420 03-22-2011 12:17 PM

I am following this thread, I have two scx10's and I have a set of jumbo kongs and a stock set of tmaxx wheels.... I have been looking for a set of extenders with 17mm hexs.... Have you seen a set?

GSXR420 03-22-2011 12:33 PM

I found this set but kinda pricey.... $55

Look into the wheels/tires that are on the new Traxxas Stampede based "Monster Trucks"m they look awesome, like actual scale cut monster truck tires, they also look light, they are set up like the SCT wheels/tires w/ a large inner rim and smaller outer for big sidewall look, they will probably handle nicely because of this too. I want to use them on a project, figured I would recommend them to you as well. The clod tires may be too big, I have seen them on axial based trucks and they are not the best looking combo.

You should do a mural on the body dedicated to the guy that hates anything bigger then 1.9 tires.

canadian scx10 03-22-2011 05:17 PM

Sorry bud no pics or anything it was short lived as now im building a scale 1.9 truck out of it to match my 1:1 08 f150

canadian scx10 03-25-2011 03:14 PM

Hey bud i was on scale 4x4 forum and you should check out a a honcho on the its a honcho with a ax10 craddle bolted on and with huge tires and wheels. I would put a direct link but im on my phone so just look up the title "monster honcho aka punisher"

MadForce 03-26-2011 01:07 PM

My take for an axial monster, just axial axles/tranny.

By the time I added some decent power I started breaking every single part!

GSXR420 03-26-2011 10:05 PM

Madforce thats nice... "thumbsup"

Any more pictures?

What length shocks are you using on that? Looks like Wheely King shocks?
