Default My Unimog Build.

Well I've been working on this the past few days and I'm getting close.

Made with 16 gauge steel and 3/16" rod.
35t motor.
5000mAh Lipo
4 link rear
Hand Bros CMS up front w/bent panhard bar to prevent binding.
MIP shafts.

I got the cab mounted tonight and took it for a short spin, it's heavy but the weight is pretty low so it's very stable. Approach angle sucks but oh well, I may reconfigure the front bumper a little. I'll probably add boat sides as well.

Well I decided to cut off most of the fender flares and narrow the fender exo a bit today. Got some more clawing in today and I love this thing, very capable. So far the only negative of the extra weight is the stock servo being a total turd.

I just can't get over how flop resistant this thing is.

Tough crowd, eh?

Cut the bumper off the body and moved the steel bumper/exo up and in to gain more clearance and added boatsides. Still a bit more "tube" work I'd like to do but I'm out of rod for now.

Sweet Mog. keep up the action pics.

Digging the high clearance front end.

Yup, that's some pretty good side angle going on in some of those pics.

Thanks!

Decided I didn't like the plain boxy "bed" so I reworked it. Still need more rod to finish it. Then I took it up to Lucia Falls for some fun, pretty cool spot about 10 minutes from the house I can't wait until the new 1.9 Pitbulls are released

Well I think I've mostly finished the "tube" work. Took it up to Lucia again. It needs wheel weights badly.

Awesome looking rig man! It's perfect inspiration for my Mog build.
Do you have any close-up shots of how the lexan cab attaches to the steel cage? I'm still unclear how that works.

Thanks! I can get shots later today probably. On each side at the back of the cab there is a piece of steel that's welded onto the front side of the vertical plate at the back of the cab, I drilled a hole in each one and welded a nut on the back side and on the front there is steel tab that sticks up and is welded to the bumper mount and I also drilled it and welded a nut on the back side. So there's only 3 screws holding the cab on but it's very sturdy and had taken tumbles very well, also the cab hoop takes most of the blows. The pics will also show how I relocated the electronics and battery tray.

Sorry for taking so long, I've been very busy, the picture isn't super clear but I hope you get the idea. I finished all the welds and ground everything down today, I'll take it to work tomorrow and bead blast it so I can paint it. Also ordered a Hobbico CS-170 servo and Castle BEC. It will be nice to actually be able to steer!

Cool! My safety-silv kit is on the way so I'm almost ready to start brazing.

Bead blasted and painted. Decided to do the wheels too. I can't wait until the new 1.9 Pitbulls are out! I'll take it back up to Lucia tomorrow for some fun.

Well crawling today went well for about 90 minutes, then she took a ~50ft tumble down a rock face and nearly went for a swim. Broke the front shock hoop right off and bent the bumper up a bit and broke a weld. I was standing right below it so I could catch it but I missed
I also weighed it today, 8lbs exactly with battery.

It tumbled from the rocks on the top left to the bottom right.

Carnage.

I was able to use one of the old rear shock hoops up front for now. Got the new servo installed along with the Castle BEC, it's going to steer whether it likes it or not Stick-on wheel weights on the way as well.

Today I managed to rip up the spur gear from the driveshaft pin working it's way out, apparently blue Loctite wasn't good enough.. Also drilled new upper rear link holes in the frame, making the links shorter but more importantly adding vertical separation between the upper and lower links. This helped out torque twist quite a bit. It could still use more vertical separation but I'll see how it works for now. I also want to order some OD gears for the front but of course they're sold out. Why is half the shit I wanna buy sold out? This hobby is frustrating.
