Default Project: Rome

Greetings everyone, I'm from China. I've been wandering around the forum for quite a few years and thank you all for providing so many interesting projects and tips, which helped me a lot before I decided to make my own custom shell. So here it starts - I do not want to replicate something existing, but to create an imaginary, a little bit "sci-fi" body. I name it a Planet Walker. I know it's a dumb name, any one has a better idea please let me know

here is the concept:

then I bought some ABS sheets and started.

Here're some new pics...

Tragedy: the plastic glass was bought with protective films on both sides, it's actually translucent after peel them off

Installed a little hinge found in Walmart. Making the "cockpit" operable, which also covers the front body clips.

get initial painting to reveal cracks:

connected the shell to the chassis, so no rear body clips anymore

adding more details to the body. I'd like to paint it all white, as something rolls out of star wars.

Yes! but i am hesitating on this because i want to mount the fenders on steering knuckles so they turn with the wheels. i hope i can find some curved plastic can be used directly. heat bending the abs may not be perfect.

A lot of guys have used the plastic covers for those stacks of blank CD's.

Yeah I already examined that... but the radius is too big for a turning fender... they are good if mounted higher and still

Great concept, I like the outside the box thinking.

Please keep this updated as I will be watching the "rome" come together.

looks awesome what material are you using? Not too crazy about your canopy hinge, i think it throws off the sci-fi look... maybe magnets?

Maybe if you put the hinge under and paint the top portion of the canopy to hide the hinge it would look 100 times better
