Mechanic's Wroncho

Hi all, new user here, just wanted to share my project as it developes, Wraith axles with straight driveshafts in a scx chassis. I four linked the front and rear wraith axles and will try to use as many wraith parts as I can with the scx frame. Love your forum, working on a wraith interior inside a honcho body, stay tuned.

This is where I ran into trouble, obviously the Wraith floor pan is meant to be trimmed, but getting it low enough without hacking it up was the problem. I used the Wraith tranny with spur gear cover and dig housing(please hurry up and release the dig kit Axial!). It is mirrored compared to the stock SCX tranny and I couldn't get the floor pan low enough for my liking, compromise time. Since this will be a trail/scale machine, by flipping the Wraith tranny around I have the dig up front, or what I call now 2wd or 4wd, gonna go as far as I can in 2wd, then shift into 4wd to pull me out. Seems pretty scale to me.

Good idea dude, are you going to cut the doors down paraell with the tube?

Mechanic 11-12-2011 10:13 PM

Yes I am going to cut open the doors down to the bar, will give better access for my "driver" and show the wraith cage/ interior/ dash better. I would like to give it that "comp" look, just need a sponsor lol.

Mechanic 11-12-2011 10:26 PM

Interior and dash all trimmed, entire inner cage is secured to the chassis and is adjustable for height on body posts.

Body dropped over cage, as far as I have gotten for now. I think the hard part is done. I only had to order four 94mm links to get this far, Everything else is right out of either kit.

I agree my builder wheels look small, geolanders on 2.2's are the same height as flat irons on 1.9's. How about flat irons on 2.2 Cac's? Or maybe 2.2 Ripsaws? I just have to go into one of my kits for those tires lol.

Looks great! Nice job.

iamsuperbleeder 11-12-2011 11:01 PM

this is looking really good man!

I eventually plan on throwing some Wraith axles under my Honcho. already running the trans, motor, and gearing out of one

are you running the Wraith shocks on that too? how much longer are they than the SCX-10 shocks? they look like they're holding the axle from the chassis about as far as my 100mm's do

klabeaume 11-12-2011 11:04 PM

I like how you did the upper links.

Mechanic 11-12-2011 11:26 PM

I am running stock scx shocks for now, tried the Wraiths they are 15mm longer or 105mm I believe. The Wraith shocks are just binding the wraith driveshafts at full extension so I need better drive shafts because the wraith shocks are Much better then the scx's. I already have ARB diff covers and I do not want them pointing at the ground and killing the caster that wraith axles actually give you verses scx's. I want to go as far as I can initially with the stock kit parts to come up with some sort of formula for this conversion, but dont worry, hop ups are slowly coming.

Mechanic 11-12-2011 11:33 PM

The upper links drove me absolutly crazy. It was the best I could do but it had consequences. They interfered with the back of the motor so I had to raise the motor and I actually centered it so my drive shafts are now equal length, the dig housing shortens one shaft alot, see my driveshaft post. My links are straight though and do not interfer with the drive shafts. Not gonna worry about roll centers etc on a trail machine.

klabeaume 11-12-2011 11:37 PM

Looks like you need to flip the shock mounts to lower the truck a little.
