75t, 35t or 27t?

Hi all,

Recently got myself an SCX10. I've had an X-Trail chassied AX10 for a while but wanted something a bit more scale looking and picked up the Honcho RTR.

I'm going to be running it on either 6 cells or 2s Lipo. I'm looking for really low wheel speed for better control and smoothness. I like the wheelspeed of the 27t motor but i could lose some of it and be fine as long as it had good torque and improves battery life.

I've got the following motors kicking about and was wondering what other people with pick.

75t Integy lath motor and standard gearing
35t (can't remember name) lathe motor with standard gearing
as above but with 14t pinion
27t Tamiya Dirt Tuned motor with 14t pinion

i would go with the 35t if you like A LITTLE wheel speed, but want more torque like you described, thats what youll get, the 75t imho would have no wheel speed, and sometimes you need it, you might try the stock 27t, with a 14t pinion just to give you an idea of what direction you wan,t but like i said the 75t will not have enough wheel speed to power up and over things, hope this helps!

I would go with the 35t in your case.

Go ahead and try the 75t if you haven't already. It's probably ridiculously slow.

I think i'll pick up a 14t pinion and try out the 35t motor with it. I've not tried the 75t yet. It was delivered in error and too much hastle to swap back (ordered from USA and i'm from UK). I can't find any videos of 75t in an SCX10 but i seen some 55t's and that was borderline too low a wheel speed so i think it's decided to leave the 75t, unless i ever decide to go 3s

i have a friend that had a 80t motor in his crawler a couple year ago and he could sit his 2yr old (back then, now is 4 or 5yrs old) daughter on it and drive around no problem... its too bad you dont have a 55t because they are nice i have one in my honcho and ax10..

out of your choices i'd say either 75t or 35t.. if your trailing with it 35t but if your carrying your rig to the rocks and you'll be there all day then 75t.

Would i need to worry with the 75t integy on binds with 6 cells on a RTR Honcho with plastic driveshafts? I think i'll try both motors and see which is best. Might be good to keep both like you say. 35t for trail runs and 75t for intensive rock crawling.
i'm a little new still to it all and my AX10 on 6 cells with a 1100kv 540L brushless motor and 14t pinion doesn't have enough torque to damage anything any of the drivetrain, but i've never tried high turn brushed before to know how much it takes to stall them

the 75t will have a ridculous amount of torque, assuming its like my friends 80t. my friends could move rocks on a course it was crazy.

i think it will be fine but remember they have the torque to break parts so be easy on the throttle when your a bind, use your servo and wiggle it also.

i wouldnt worry too much about it just swap them out. who knows you might find that the 35t works good in all situations... right?? try both and see which one you like better. one is always going to work better than the other one in a certain situatuion... like 75t is good for rocks.... and rock only..

i dont do alot of trailing its mostly pack my rc shit into a 1:1 car meet a friend (have no DL right now, move my shit into friends car go to another friends house and carry shit into shop flop it onto the workbench. at home my course is probably maybe 100 ft from the house so i sometimes drive it to the course but end up pissing around on the stairs or something on the way......

Im running the same set-up and i agree very happy with mine..

Out of curiosity, I picked up an axial 50t, and let me tell you t was SLOW lol. Nice low speed control, and even longer run times, but if you want to drive over an open area from one obstacle to another or like trail running it gets tiresome, but it was great for crawling. I can't imagine how slow the 75t would be... I'm happiest with my 27t geared down, plenty of torque and wheel speed to get me up and over just about everything in my area. Might pick up 35t sometime to give it a shot, from the "what powers your scx-10" thread it sounds like lots of guys are happy with that setup.

I have a 35t and like it. Slow for my taste but great for what I use it for. Bought another for my dingo that I am building.

Well since you have all three just try them each out! We can give opinions but only you can make the final decision.
