Default SCX10 Shock upgraded Shock hoops

Are they worth upgrading? I know VP makes them for the SCX10 out of aluminum.
Any pros/cons of this upgrade?

I have the stock shock hoops on one rig and Vanquish aluminum hoops on another.

I agree with the "if it aint broke, don't fix it" motto but not it this case.

The stock hoops work fine and should last quite a while but they flex. Keep in mind that the body is attached to the hoops so that would increase flex.

The rig with the Vanquish stock has no such flex issues and that's how I prefer it.

For the record...I'm going to order a new set from Vanquish for my other rig.

Hope this helps!

And this flex has hurt the rigs crawling ability how? My hoops are over a year old beat hard and not broken yet....my rig crawls great too!

The Vanquish hoops are you still able to use the stock body posts?

You're right, they will last a long time but the reality is that a shock needs to be attached to a solid base, not a flimsy flexible one. Shocks compress and follow a certain path. A hoop that flexes will alter the path the shock travels and add a degree of sloppiness . The flex will also change the angle of the shocks and depending on the shock's thickness it will cause them to rub on the frame rail.

I have a heavy rig with steel front , rear, and side bumpers. I prefer the stability of aluminum hoops. if you wish to keep the original hoops but add some stability then you might consider place a link between the two hoops.

Yes, you will be able to use the stock body posts. It will also keep your truck body stable.

I barely trust the stock plastic shock towers as body mounts, much less structural to the suspension's operation. So I whipped up some ghetto shock relocation/chassis stiffeners/slider raisers out of a couple pieces of road sign.

It would be super easy to just make 4 triangles to bolt to the stock chassis and drill your own shock mounts wherever you'd like.

Does that count as a Twin Vertical Plate design?

sure you could do all that stuff mentioned above, but if you want to save $ and weight just make a simple brace that ties the two towers together with a piece of rod or brake line. if you don't have a tap, use brake line and put a dab of shoe-goo in the ends to hold your threads. works very well for a $0.50 fix

Another way too make a cheap brace is to use a plastic coat hanger cut it to size get a use a 2.5 mm drillbit then the screw will thread its self I've made a lot of braces and upper links this way

I have the vp ones ,but i don't think its needed just mostly bling ,the stock one don't flex there about the same .I think the flex comes from the classis not the towers .imo

Thanks Desert Rc!!! The cool thing is the carbon fiber tube was scrap from my old RC10L pan car from 20+ years ago I used a longer screw for the shocks which I go from my old 3 link thanks for the help from the search button here... I have a total of zero dollars invested in this.
