That's why I do it, sort of. The challenge of the build.

They bind. I don't want to tilt the tranny, so the angle to the transfer case is too steep for them. The MIPs make it with more angle to spare. And I really like these MIPs.

Got the MIP installed, and the rig is at a milestone for me. It's at it's roller stage.

Next to be done is the floor panneling, then seats and their mounting rails.

Looks awesome, waiting to see running vid. Looks a little like possible top heavy but could be just perception. Nice job on your custom build like the trans setup and design. Good luck

I'm happy with it so far. It will be at this stage for a while, whilst I work on other projects.

Probably going to use Holmes Hobbies power, possibly the Tekin set up as other choice.

As for the body, I have not made it yet. It's construction will be built around the floor plate. It's a little over 5lbs at the moment. I'll weight it again after I braze in the seat mounts.

It does look top heavy, but with all that steel down low
(axles of awesomeness), it should handle just fine. The motor will be high, but the other componentry will be down low as well.

I want to have it running for first snow on the trails, but the build budget has ended for it this season, in lieu of my road bike build over this winter.

We'll see. Maybe I'll luck into more funding for all my builds...

Got the seats done. Used 1/8" balsa core, skinned with 1-layer of 6oz. carbon fiber cloth. This method makes for quick construction, as well as being light-weight. 15gm each. I've recently decided, that this method will be used to build the interior of the body work. It will keep the weight up top to a minimum. I still have to hole them, to accept some harnesses. I'm thinking Team 3Six.

Got the skid plate all finished also.

I first made a fiberglass reinforced plate, containing a good amount of graphite powder / epoxy resin. This makes the resin hard and slick. Good for skidding over rocks.

I then treated the chassis with a mold release agent, and globbed on a graphite / cabosil thickend epoxy mud. Kind of like cake icing. The plate was then jammed into the bottom of the chassis; making an imprint, so that the skid plate will fit the chassis like a glove.

I cleaned it up, edge champfered it, bonded in the threaded inserts , and then bolted it on. Check it:

Great idea and execution on the skid plate...but the seats came out awesome! So what did you use as the inserts, foam?

Yes, neoprene foam. It's edges sanded smooth, and 5-min epoxied into the seat shells.
