Every time I come back to this thread I am more amazed than the time before at the quality of craftsmanship in it. Killer job man, absolutely killer. Your tranny mount is an idea that I might have to steal for my rig if you don't mind! Can't wait to see you finish this thing man!

Thanx for your praise.

I wouldn't copy my tranny design, because there are better engineered ways of doing it. Mine mounts the motor up high. Not preffered, but my rig is very heavy down below, so the high motor is not much of a concern.

For a nice low design, check out what GCM Racing does for mounting the tranny low. If I do another build, my tranny will be more like their design.

Mine has a crap load of weight down low as well so motor placement isn't that big of a deal to me either. I'll check out GCM Racing's mounting solution as well though.

Also, not only are you fantastic at working with metal, but well done on the balsa wood seats and interior! Super clean man!

I just stumbled across this today. Fantastic job!! These are the kind of scale builds everyone wishes they could tackle, but so few can.

Tranny floor cover done. Came in at 4gm. It will be bonded onto the floor, after their skins have been done.

Getting carbony round h'ya. Paint will knock that down!

Absolutely sick.... Carbon work came out Professional. I would love to be able to do detailed work like that.

Thank you all for your praise.

Yes, I will be doing some tutorials on the subject, so others can add composite fabrication, to their list of skills.

Here it is:

Got the passenger handle bar mount made. I don't have a passenger figure made yet, so I can't make the bars until I know where the passenger's arms reach. Also, I want to get all the chassis / cage brazing done, so I can paint it while we have good weather. A 1/8" handle bar will be secured into this mount:

Axles painted, and drivetrain bullet-proof. GCM axles, transfer-case, Robinson steel gears (all), Axial hardened rings / pinions, universals, Vanquish spools. Used black textured tremclad (textured paint tributing the Mangler again).

Brazed the links too. Didn't like the loose-ness with the 1/4" pipe and the 8/32" all-thread, so I sloted the ends of the pipe and coned them in. Then brazed'em up.

Thanx. Tricky stuff though. I've brazed, and un-brazed sometimes, to get things right.

Got the steering done. A Savox 500oz. servo is in where the latched battery-tray was. I'll deal with the battery another way.

Going with bell-cranked sterring on this build. It worked well with my micro, so why not.

Mounting items to Metalhead axles is so easy. Drill a hole, tap it, bolt down a bell-crank. It's made from a piece steel tube, brazed to a boomerang shaped plate. A couple of 3x6mm flanged bearings and a crush-sleeve, and no bumpsteer or shifty axle 3-link set-ups.

With some bending, the tie-rod sneeks through all the suspention linkages.

I'll have to make a tunnel in the interior floor for the tie-rod, but not much.

It's coming out good, so thank youz for the comments. A few items I've made, and then re-made to get it right. I'm trying to get it running for first inch of snow that comes to my area. I have not drove on that for many years, and I can't wait to do it again. Miss that shit! Clod busters were new the last time I drove in snow.

Ah not really. Just my interpretations of many of the ideas on these wee truck forums. Some of the best creativity I've ever seen.

Did some changing up (for niceness...). Got rid of the big front body mount / servo plate, and added a smaller design, in which the bottom grill will bolt to.
Brazed nuts added too, for mounting a radio plate on.

Before:

After:

Made a winch anchor and roll-cage mount. Wee wing-bolts were a pain, but got'em done satisfactorily.

Made a "pig foot" out of an allen-key as well. I forget who I saw make them, but thanx for the wicked idea. Made a mount, then used some silcone tube to hold the crow-bar in place.

More tools added. Got some Proline tools and weathered them, using some acrylic paint. Black on the jack, silver, burt umber, and burt sienna on the others.

I can't seem to find a place for these three though. I might just leave them off of this build.

Also made a funky fire extinguisher.

Glued some carbon fiber tube into some foam, and spun it into a tank-shape with the drill-lathe set-up. Skinned it with some carbon fiber cloth, resin / sand, resin / sand, till it was smooth. Then added some angled carbon plate scraps for handles, and some other carbon tubes for nozzle and gauge, then misted some satin clear on it after a fine sanding, and voila. It will soon be painted red, gauge & tank lable decal added, and then be bolted on to the seat rails.
