Default SCX10 steering mod

Im new to the crawling world. I noticed the poor turning radius with my SCX10. I want to do the Wraith/XR10 steering mod. What parts do I need? any tips?

Welcome to the forum.
There are some improvements to be made to the SCX steering. The XR mod is probably the best there is...here is a thread I have found helpful xr10 axleshafts on stock width axle
If you search through the AX10 section there are quite a few other builds that have done this mod.
Good luck

You'll need the fallowing parts for the XR Mod

Standard beef toobs
XR-10 universals
XR-10 and or Wraith C-hubs
XR-10 and or Wraith Knuckles

and that's keeping the stock AX or SCX stance you can also do longer beef toobs and not have to shorten the XR universals.

If you get the longer Beef tubes you will not have to grind the XR axles. I just got this done, here is a link to mine:

Beef tubes are not necessary. 5 minutes with a dremel or a file on the stock housing will allow the XR c hubs to slide on the AX housing.

I have read the same thing... you could always try the stock plastic ones before buying aluminum to make sure. I'm going to try it soon also, I have the stock parts I just haven't been able to swap them out yet. Post up what you find out.

Truism, beef tubes aren't necessary but are nice to have. Worthwhile mod to do in any case.

i took a cone shaped dremal stone to the inside if my stub axles, and relocated the front c hub mount screws and got a noticeable increase in steering

Could the scx10 universals be cut down to fit? Or are the xr10's uni's longer? And as far as the beef tubes go, I don't have any in my stock scx10, am I missing somethig ?

Xr10 universals do not fit scx chub/knuckles, the length is another issue.

Beef tubes are not a stock part, or made by axial either.

You are simply swapping your scx10 Chubs/knuckles/cvds for the xr10 Chubs/knuckles/cvds and reusing everything else (housing, bearings, hardwre, diff locker.) Optional pieces are the beef tubes and a felsenfest no-slop locker.

Did this mod on my JK and it works awesome!

How to do the narrow XR10 mod to Axial axles

You dont need to do aluminum CHUBs/Knuckles if you dont want to....much cheaper $18 vs $70+ just for those 2 parts lol. I'm using plastic to test, then when (and if) they break I'll consider upgrading. I dont wheel very hard so they may last a LONG time.

You can also get delrin tubes that are pre-splined to fit the xr-10/wraith Chubs.
