Thanks.

Those replace the nylock nut, but the tool used to tighten them was so delicate it would break if you tried to put a little torque on them.

They since discontinued them, but not before I grabbed a couple sets and a few extra tightening tools.

The Aisin style ones is what I switched over to on my newer builds.

You will see them in the link below, which I believe has all the hubs they have now.

Hi I've just joined the forum, and I'm new to this hobby but I've done lots of work with 1:1 trucks in real life. I think this - 87591 HPI Gear Diff Adjust Spring Set | eBay
would work just fine as the spring is stronger. Instead of using the washer in the kit maybe a fibre washer or sandpaper?

Yes, other people have suggested the HPI 87591 set on my Youtube video of this truck. Welcome to RCC.

To address a question from a member about the wheelbase on the Cherokee, which kit to start with, and what links to use for the correct wheelbase, I will post my message to him below.

I just wanted to find out what wheelbase/kit your SCX started life as, or what links you're running to get the right wheelbase for the Cherokee?

I'm planning to do a scaler Cherokee myself, but I'm not a fabricator. I can tolerate building a kit, but that's about it. I was thinking a Dingo would be close enough wheel base to what the PL Cherokee body lists. Dingo=11.4 Cherokee=11.8

Thanks!
Hi, thanks for the complement.

I started with a Dingo builders kit. It came with 91mm metal lower links which may work unchanged for the Cherokee. It kind of depends on where you drill your body holes. Once the body is mounted, you may want to move the axle a little one way or the other to get the tires right in the middle of the wheel wells. I wound up using 89mm lower links for the front to get the wheels centered in the wheel wells, but it may be different for you depending on how your body sits after mounting. The Cherokee's wheelbase is really closer to 11.5" I have mine at about 11-9/16 (11.5625)

You can find 89mm links from RC4WD here or 88mm here, BTW, I buy much of my parts from RC4WD, you should peruse there whole site when you have some time. Amazing selection of RC truck parts.
You can see some of my scale build videos etc. on my Youtube channel here.

Cheers!

hey mate, just thought you might be keen to see some of my pics. i finally got around to putting an XJ together to match my 1:1 so im going to clutter your thread with pics of my truck!!!

first thing was to divorce the front spring/shock

leaf rear with some Tamiya (i think grasshopper) shocks.

chassis mounted servo and XJ style steering link where the drag link pivots from the main link. it actually works really well except its a little flexible for my liking. not sure what to do to correct this. in time.

divorced motor/trans using a 550 mabuchi drill motor mounted to a HPI gear reduction box to replace the pinion/spur on the stock tranny. id like to replace the tranny with a proper transfer case, but i cant get the gear ratio down far enough with parts on hand.

my stance, with RC4wd 1.7 steel wagon wheels. and 1.55 mud thrashers. scale out to 28inch tires. perfect to match my 1:1

made a bumper to match the real one.

and while im at it, some action shots.

and just to note, low/realistic/stock doesnt automatically mean no flex.

lastly, i have an unlocked front diff, and im contemplating unlocking the rear. it drives VERY realistically like this as my real one has a very tight LSD in the bum and sometimes id swear it was locked.

heres my real one>

There was a guy making XJ hardbodies for a while. You might be able to find one on Ebay or some of these scale forums.

Here are some links to pics and info on the body, it was made by Scaleoffroad.de, the site is no longer up.

Nice work.

Only the interior is correct for the Cherokee body though. That floor pan is for the longer wheelbase (honcho 12.3") and won't fit the Cherokee.
